I got it, its breast cancer awareness month. Yup, I'm well aware. Your ribbon means as much as my socks.

Give money. Do a race for the Cure. Write to your Congressperson asking them to keep breast cancer research well funded. Make sure your family and friends (and possibly yourself) get scheduled screenings.

Don't bother with the ribbon.

ok look mouse you are of course entitled to your feelings but for those of us who are dealing with the death or illness of a loved one with breast cancer, this is a bit offensive. Fuck you and your socks.

Right, 'cause the ribbon stops the pain and deaths.

I have volunteered at race for the Cures. I've given money. I've had Breast Cancer on the periphery of my life(though never been hit that close to home, for which I am thankful).

I say take action, not ribbons.

Go fuck yourself Peachykeen. Presume what you want but you run around the board playing judgement. Have fun with it.

I kinda agree with MM here.

If I post a pink ribbon as my av for a while, what'll it do? Nada. If I give money, it'll buyreasearch.

And I feel that way about all diseases, cancers and terrism.

ok I only just spent every day of the entire summer from June 6 to Sept 15 driving my mom to her chemo and radiation appointments and watching her go through this shit. Excuse me for being a little bit sensitive on this topic.

Right back atcha, mouse.

Lets remember though, these ribbons are sold to raise money for research!

Which excuses the fact that you read soemthing into my post that wasnt there. that you brought incredible negativity to a positive thread.

Im very sorry that you and your mother are dealing with cancer. But, jeezus, you are way off base here.

Everyone does have a point. The ribbon in people face it kind of reminds people to donate money. As Emerald_eyed has stated -these ribbons are sold to raise money for research! -

Umm my first point has been made.

How do you know that the pink ribbon av wearers aren't doing more than that?

My second point would have been regarding free speech...but who the hell wants to hear that all over again? You know, the old, "If you dont' like it, dont' read it" or in this case,. "dont' look."

My third point may still be valid. The pink ribbons may actually motivate someone to give money, enter a charity walk or simply send a card to a relative with breast cancer.

Who knows?
IT is "Awareness month" for that very reason.

Just my two cents....That and a buck will get you a cup of java.

no, I am not.

you clearly stated that you are of the opinion that wearing a pink ribbon is entirely insignificant. However, I can say that this is not so. It makes me personally feel a little tiny bit better every time I see someone with one, because it makes me remember that I, my mom, my sisters and the rest of my family are not alone in dealing with this, and that other people care, are involved, and may be dealing with this as well. So it is somehow some big imposition on you if people wear pink ribbons? Too bad for you. Get over yourself.

Which I have, and that is why I have a pink ribbon on my AV. I am sorry if it bothers people, but I would like for more people to donate. :)

Hanns!

Go back to Kindergarten adn learn some manners, will ya?

If you are so fucking great, why do you have all the time and energy to muddy up the board with your anger laiden bullshit.

IF ya wanna troll someone, pick on someone your own mental size.

Oh...they don't allow preschoolers on lit.

Geesh

Now, I am really pissed! You made me violate my own advice in my sig line.

;) So much for the sugar and spice for trolls routine!

Yes, some of the ribbons are sold to raise money for research. There are also numerous little pink ribbons that adorn prducts, advertisements, avs, etc, etc... that mean little if anything. I was prommoting action, however small, over symbolism.

How do you know that the pink ribbon av wearers aren't doing more than that?

I never said that they were not. Look at littlekateeyes. SHe has a ribbon in her av and also has given money. Thats good stuff.

My second point would have been regarding free speech...but who the hell wants to hear that all over again? You know, the old, "If you dont' like it, dont' read it" or in this case,. "dont' look."

Ya lost me witht he free speech thing. Not sure what point you are trying to make.

My third point may still be valid. The pink ribbons may actually motivate someone to give money, enter a charity walk or simply send a card to a relative with breast cancer.

This is true. But I feel that the ribbon sometimes allows for people to stop short. As if a ribbon is enough recognition. Its great to give Breast Cancer some thought but alot more can be done with a small amount of time and energy.

Don't apologize.

Never apologize for doing something that you feel and know is right.

MM?

I think the thread title has put people immediately on the defensive.

Just my personal opinion.

Obviously, I needn't have posted as we were on the same page, but it didn't seem to be so in the first post or thread title.

Oh...the free speech?

Dont' worry about it.
That is the nyquil talking :D
