Vomit virus has infected 3,000,000 since christmas. Lasts for 48 hours. If you're thinking of visiting, borrow Liar's smog mask.

Ohhh... and watch where you tread.

Sorry, dear. Get better soon :rose:

We had a milder non-vomit version over New Year, fortunately it passed me by.

I feel atrocious. Hoping my dad doesn't find out or he'll be round here force-feeding me Diolyte. If you don't know what it is, be glad.

er...what is vomit virus?

A nasty little visitor that affects your stomach and causes you to puke and ... else.

We have a variant here in Germany also, called Noro. He won't win the most-adored-price also.

It's a virus called "winter vomiting virus". It is easily spread in confined spaces such as schools, offices, hotels, hospitals and cruise ships.

For most people it is a short-term unpleasantness that lasts about three days. For those who are already ill from some other complaint, it can be devastating.

The name describes the symptoms - violent and frequent vomiting (barfing). It arrives suddenly. One of my daughters was at work, felt slightly queasy, and just managed to grab a wastepaper bucket before her last two meals came out in a spurt.

It can lead to dehydration - hence the diolyte J-L mentioned.

Treatment - rest, liquids only for 24 hours then light food such as toast.

Og

*HUGS* and antimicrobial wipes/sprays to all who need them.

:rose:

And Gatorade, not to be confused with Hatorade.

Okay. I loves ya Brits, you know that, but I think you should all stay at home for the winter. No traveling abroad and spreading this thing. 'Kay? The world thanks and salutes you ;)

we call it gastro here, it's awful and so bloody contagious

but that's A LOT of people, sorry guys!

Considering the way people travel these days it's probably spread all over the world by now.

One of the great inventions for spreading disease is the Jumbo Jet. ;)

So far, touch wood *bangs head* we've not experienced this virus. I've known familes who've suffered with it and it was mentioned on the news last weekend, telling people not to go to the docs with it 'cos ther just spreading it further.

*kisses* and a big bottleof water to any affected.

We got it from you and your Lisbon-kind! I blamed the oysters when we started dying of the damned bug the day after New Year's, but 5 days after that, everyone in the family came down with it, and the only place we went to before it happened was Lisboa!

Murderer! Charley got over it in a little over 24 hours, but with my immune system being what it is, it took me a whole week before I could have a proper regular-person-portion-sized meal. :(

It was a great-tasting picanha, though. Talk about symmetry. :D

Damn thing is rampant over here too. Got it last winter, and let me tell ya, for a confirmed emetophobic, it was hugely effective shock therapy.

Oh dear! o_O My family lives just outside London...none of them have gotten sick yet, as far as I know. I don't think I'll be visiting them till all this is over though!!

I didn't have it! Which one of you kissed my wife :D

See reply above :D

The son-in-law brought from UK, then the wife, then our daughter - started on 1st Jan

My sympathies.

But this is what you get for using "sick" as a noun.

*shudders*

I'm sick as it is. I can't imagine what this would do to me when I already have bronchitis.

I'm staying in my house until further notice.

The local hospital are discouraging visitors except for the most seriously ill of the patients. Min had to attend an out patients appointment yesterday, she says there was a woman inside the door with a container of sanitising gel and making everyone coming and going out put some on their hands and rub it in.

Good move.

We haven't had too many cases in the prison yet - except for my compatriot in arms, the other typist who works in a building deep inside the prison. She was off work for 5 days. I can't imagine the chaos if it got into the prisoner population!

We're all being told to exercise careful hygiene at all times. Washing hands etc.

We get this every winter, but I don't think it's been this bad or widespread before.
