Enema alternatives?

My g/f and I are just starting to experiment with the ol' back door.

We both are warry (sp?) of being embarrassed by getting dirty. I know that an enema will work for both of us, but I don't know if she will go for it. I mean she is just now getting used to my fingers there, I don't think a bag of water shot up her ass would go over well.

How can you clean the area another way? How "deep" should you clean it? I think this will be something that we do on our own, we are still sensitive about it, and want our first experience to be good, not dirty.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's true. An enema is not a big deal. You just have to get over the idea of it being strange.You could try castor oil (swallowing it).Anyone who has been overdue with a baby has probably tried it. But in reality the enema is not really an option, we are two university students living together with two other roomies who would not appreciate us taking super long "showers" anyways.
We don't even have a tub, just a small shower stall that we both can't fit into at the same time.

I was asking more for self cleaning tips that we could both try in the shower other than enemas. Surely not everyone uses an enema before they engage in anal play ever time? The self cleaning would also get both of us used to having something down there. It would help lower our inhibitions.

We have a technique that we usually use in the shower just as a matter of convenience. There are disposable vaginal douches that come in small squeezable plastic bottles with a long nozzle containing numerous outlet holes. The lid quickly screws off and the empty bottle can be filled in the shower stream quickly. Most times an application or two with this will give you all the "space" you need. Personally, just making sure I have gone to the bathroom and washed up well afterwards is enough.
