Endless Ends

There was nudity in the 80's slasher flicks ?? Why didn't someone tell me ? I was too stoic back them, as in focusing on virtue, to watch such movies.

Pershaps I can make up for that now: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls080751607/
You focused on virtue? How . . . puritanical? 🤔

Whoa. Those are some titles. 😳

I am rather surprised to find I have seen ~10 of the 44. A couple were practically unwatchable, but a few were classics: Body Heat, Dressed to Kill, Return of the Living Dead.

I've always been rathe curious about Altered States. I should watch.

Lifeforce? Space vampires in London?!?!

I AM SO IN!!!!

I am getting ready to start on Dante's Divine Comedy.

I've made a run at it a couple of times previously, but simply could not get into the style. Not sure why. Possibly because it's poetry? Poetry has never engaged me emotionally, but these last few years I've gained more of an appreciation. So . . . we shall see.

Four or five years back I picked up the three volume Dorothy Sayer's translation. (Which tells you way more than you need to know about my to-be-read pile. 😬) I am a fan of her prose, and she gets praise for her background introduction, footnotes, and maintaining Dante's terza rima scheme.

While talking to a friend, they opined Ciardi as a better introductory choice. His translation is crisp, if not at elegant, and is fifty years more recent.

THEN, someone else suggested Hollander. 🤣

*is now overwhelmed*

I don't know if you're around @Mei5ter, but as someone who appreciates Sayers and may have read one or more of these translations, do you have any thoughts?

Anyone else, feel free to chime in. 🙂

I'm looking for the most engaging read.

"The full moon in April 2025, known as the Pink Moon, will be visible on April 12th and 13th, 2025. The full moon will reach its peak illumination at 8:22 p.m. EDT on April 12th. This springtime lunation will double as a supermoon, boasting astronomical and astrological significance as it radiates bright in the cosmos."

"The spiritual meaning of the full moon April 2025 astrology is healing karmic wounds related to love relationships and self-worth . . . (It) aligns with the most fortunate star used in astrology. Fixed star Spica in the Maiden gives spiritual strength, helps overcome adversity, and ensures a successful healing process."

"Capricorn: The Full Pink Moon casts light on your career and public life, asking you to consider your ambitions and how they align with your values. Have you been chasing success for the wrong reasons? Now is the time to realign your professional goals with what truly matters to you. This could be a moment of reckoning, but it’s powerful."

See, @hotwords229_A?

You have shocked @Wand3rlust to her very core. Tsk.

I call your attention to the canon of Lon Chaney werewolf movies. Not ONCE did I see his nether regions.

*bangs gavel of final judgement*

You've just become inured to all that 80's slasher flick nudity. :D
Must I also point out that, although I LOVE the old Universal Monsters, Lon Chaney would often transform in one outfit and then run around in another, only to find himself wearing the original outfit in the morning?

Check The Wolf Man and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man for examples.

Makes way more sense to just be nude. 👍
Lifeforce? Space vampires in London?!?!
As Investor said, Lifeforce is a movie wear Matilda May, the main villain, is nude throughout almost the entire movie.

It’s great! 😁

Are you sure about Lifeforce ? A main villan is a woman !
Like women can't be villains?

I feel like you can't have met many women. 🤣

I am ready for a reckoning. Bring it on Pink Moon. 😎

Hmm. I won't argue with a lady, but may I at least ask you to take my previous words into consideration? I really meant what I said, I wasn't just trying to make you feel better or something.
How kind of you, Sir.

*curtsies*

For example? You've posted nearly 16000 times, and even my patience doesn't stretch that far!
You expect me to incriminate myself?

Besides, it's like every tenth post. 😂

The clothing changes align with the physical changes, thereby enhancing the extreme duality of the metamorphosis and adding layers to the underlying myths and depth to the actors performance.

Okay. Yeah. Nude makes more sense.

As long as it's photographed in ways that do not expose Enny to -

FULL FRONTAL MALE NUDITY

That is all.

😳

After perusing Investor's trailer I am no longer sure that is my cup of tea.

However, I totally get why you like it. :p

Women are totally able to be villains. In fact, they are probably the genius behind most male villains. They’re just so good, you never even know it.

I’m ready for some changes.

I’ve never read more perfectly worded bullshit. 🤣🤣🤣

I just imagine him turning into the Wolf Man and then stopping to grab his dress shirt and pants, put on his belt, tuck his shirt in and then run out to murder someone. 🤣

Yesterday, I watched April Fools Day from 1986.
You might like it. It’s kind of like a slasher movie for people who don’t like slasher movies.
Agatha Christie meets Friday the 13th.

I don't have much to contribute here - sorry. I read a biography of Sayers years and years ago, and her Penguin Classics translation got a mixed reception at the time. I think this was mainly because academic reviewers were jealous that she - a crime writer who also had the temerity to be female - had been commissioned to do it when Penguin OBVIOUSLY should have got a male academic to do it.

I haven't read it, and I'm not in a position to comment on Dante in any case. But what little I know wouldn't put me off :)

I watched a movie last night called Uninvited (1988). It was about an escaped lab cat that goes on a yacht and kills everyone one by one.

Pretty funny! But the nudity was totally lacking. How do you make a movie about a killer cat on a yacht with hot girls wearing bikinis through the whole movie and make it PG-13? Disgusting! 😁

I watched this! And, it was very much slasher flick meets Agatha Christie. The gore was extant, but less gratuitous than the norm.

The surprise ending was . . . a surprise. Both of them. :p

I only know of it from an episode of Colombo where the guy used it to fake a heart attack to provide himself an alibi. I love that show!
Me too! Though, I love Murder She Wrote even more. Did you know Stephen Spielberg directed and co-wrote and directed the first episode of Columbo? Crazy stuff.

Oh! Oh! Okay. This movie requires my attention. :D

At first I thought you meant The Uninvited (1944). It took me about five minutes to rebombulate, because in no way does your description remotely coincided with sync my recollection of that movie. 🤣

Crime fiction AND a woman. The absolute gall.

Thank you, anyway. Seemed worth a shot. 🙂

I foresee a movie coming in the near future . . . "Attack Of The Armadillos" . . . "fear the swarm of the small creatures as they seek their prey".

Oh, my goodness! I've never seen more than one at a time. The collection noun turns out to be roll. A roll of armadillos!

I am charmed. ☺️
