Emperor_Nero's daughter

It was her fault! *points to pleaz* She really did say two.

:D

Hey all ... I was with Wenchie and Nero when they got the call ... after an extremely hectic early morning I may have been muttering mumbling stumbling and stuttering :p

Daughter only broke one ankle, but she broke 3 bones in the one ankle. She has a plate, 2 pins, and 5 screws. Wenchie and Nero have gotten a bit of rest and some family members stopped by to help out for a bit.

Wenchie and Nero are hoping daughter will be released tomorrow, it just depends upon the pain medicine/nasuea mix she has going on. As soon as she is able to keep food down she will be released and will come home with Wenchie and Nero for a few weeks.

I'll be sure to pass this thread on to both of them and let them know of everyone's kind thoughts and words. :rose:

Thanks, pleaz. I hope the girl can come home tomorrow. Nothing heals like the comfort of your own home.

Thanks to pleaz and Red for the update

:rose: *Hugs* and  to Nero, Wenchie, and daughter, may she heal fast :rose:

Thank you so, so much

First off, let me say that both Wenchie and I are simply overwhelmed by this response. You have no idea how long and how trying this weekend has been at times, between seeing your child in pain, very little sleep and trying to take care of all the bureaocracy of a hospital, a university and a state that you don't call home. All I can say right now is thank your for your thoughts and concerns -- although thank you does not even come close to repaying what this means.

As far as a condition update, the last statements on here are pretty much correct. She broke her right ankle in three spots, pretty much shattering both the tibia and the fibula. The best that we can sort of figure out is that she slipped on the ice, but as her weight hit the point of no return for one of those comic looking prat falls where your feet fly forward and you go completely airborn before falling on your rear end, her right foot hit something (snow, dry pavement or something) and it stuck -- breaking the ankle before she ever hit the ground. Everything has been put back together with five screws, two pins and a plate and she has a nifty new boot immobilizing everything from her knee down to her toes (although she can still wiggle the toes and is asked to do so frequently by her therapists).

All is now looking good that she will be released tomorrow and will be able to come home. The university has put her on an emergency health leave of absence for the next two weeks, which takes us to spring break -- meaning she can stay at home for the next three weeks with no academic repercussions, as teachers can not penalize her for not being in class and must allow her to make up any and all missed work and/or exams.

Yesterday (Saturday) was incredibly difficult, as we got the call from her best friend saying she was in the hospital emergency room and they "think" she might have broken her ankle at about 3 a.m. -- after we had gone to bed at about 2 a.m. Needless to say, we got cleaned up, dressed, packed enough clothes to last a week, got online and booked a room, dropped the dog off at my parents and were on the road by 6:30 a.m. We covered the approx. 300 miles in 4 hours flat, pulling into the hotel at 10:30 and were to the hospital by 11 a.m. We stayed until the end of visiting hours at 8 p.m., grabbed a quick dinner and finally came back to the hotel to collapse -- ending a streak that included about 1 hour of sleep in the previous 36. It was an even longer day for her though, as she went through a surgery and spent the day in a lot of pain ... more than necessary as we learned (after about 8-9 hours) that morphene doesn't really do much for her. She was switched to Demerol and almost immediately started feeling better.

One good night's rest later and we were back at the hospital about 10:30 this morning (of course we missed seeing the Dr. by about 15 minutes ). We had hopes that she might get released today, as she was doing very well with the crutches. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of her demerol is nausea and she couldn't keep food down -- and they wouldn't release her until she could keep things down so they could switch the pain meds to a pill form. She is now keeping down food and pain is still going down. Dealt with University today, which has notified all of her instructors, formally initiated her leave of absence, approved a handicapped parking plaquard for her return (as she has been told she can not put ANY weight on that ankle for at least six weeks) and are starting to coordinate with the state so she can get a handicapped parking permit good for any off campus places she might have to go to.

That's about everything and, honestly, we're both about ready to drop from exhaustion yet again. But I was going to quick send an update to Molly before nodding off. Instead, I saw this thread and showed it to Wenchie. We were both overwhelmed and thought this would be the best place to post an update.

I'll try to update things tomorrow after we get home.

But again, thank you all so much for your caring and support. It really does mean a lot to all of us.

Good to hear things are going well (or as well as can be expected).
Have a good sleep and drive carefully.

:rose:  and ((hugs)) to all.

It is very good to hear that she's already on the mend.

You two try to get some rest now, too.

We love you guys. Take care of yourselves and your baby.

Glad she's on the mend Nero. You and Wenchie need some down time too after your marathon.

Take care all 3 of you and we're sendin' healin' vibes your daughters way.

Hang tough folks. :rose:

Anybody still nostalgiac for "the good old days" hasn't had the benefit of modern medicine. One huge PHEW for the entire adventure.

I'll still keep you all in my prayers but I'm so glad things are progressing well. :rose:

One of the concerns today is that there's a large storm system moving in. Wenchie was a bit worried about it last night. Turning on the news this morning, it looks as if it's moving faster than expected.

Please send some prayers their way that the system slows down and they're able to get on the road before it gets too bad. :rose:

This winter has been a bitch for them weather wise anyway, why expect a break now? :(

Prayers for a safe trip home for the 3 of them :rose:

Get her home and resting and soon she'll be driving you both mad. I'm glad she wasn't hurt any worse and has the opportunity to drive you both mad. Family should always come first. Good and healing thoughts, I'll keep you all in my prayers.:rose::rose:

Again our many thanks to all of you. She is home and resting and getting back to her normal self. (We're not sure if that is good or bad at this point.)

But I'm off to try and get some much needed sleep. Hugggss
Wenchie

Like I say to all my students at one time or another, "The way you are behaving is perfectly normal. Hopefully you will outgrow it and everything will be fine, but right now you are making me crazy. Stop it!"
