Why do women support him by buying his music? I debate with my daughters often about his music and videos concerning his depiction of women. My daughters say "It's just a song, he doesn't mean it for real."

Several women have told me he has a good sound or he looks hot but I don't believe that should obscure what he states in his songs. I am not saying anything about Eminem as a person, just wondering why so many females support him?

I know I will get jumped on because of this thread but I do not agree with his portrayal of the treatment of women.

Well...

One of the truths is that many women out there(especialy teens)buy music of people based on how they look. Being a teen myself and having been around teen girls, I can say this from expierence. I find that alot of the time they'll run out and buy the newest cds of certain performers because of how hot they are to them. He could be talking about going to their house and killing them and they'll still buy his stuff as long as he looks good saying it. Not all teen girls are like that, but enough are that they help his sales.

Just my opinion. :)

P.S. Tiggs, yes all Rap is bad! lol

He s the bastard child of his environment.....oh he's also the love child of Deborah and Dee_Cole.

Ya heard it here first folks. Film at 11

You handle that one better than I did. I bought my son the CD, then over heard some of it playing in his room and threw the damned thing away. I got the ol' "awahhhh MOM!".

My humble two cents--I don't consider rap a form of music, I don't know how it should be classified--don't like it--

Screw the 2 my 25 cents

Ok here is my opinion and I know you are all gonna hate me. But who cares. As a young African American male I can honestly say I LOVE RAP AND HIP HOP music. Now I know some people do not and I can respect that, buuuuuuuuttttttttt do not go out and say rap is not music. I dislike country music but instead of insulting it I CHOSE NOT TO LISTEN to it. I HATE a lot of the stuff I see on MTV but I CHOSE NOT TO WATCH IT. Why because the those kind of things are not my thing and the HIP HOP and RAP culture is. To some people who do not like, it not the fact that you consider it not music, it fact that you do not understand it because you do not know where the artist is coming from ya dig.

As for the Eminem discussion first off let me say this: "That white boy got issues", but at least he is honest about his issues. A lot of people choose to bottle in frustration, let it build and finally explode ( myself included) Eminem's game is he vents over his albums. Now this venting some people can relate to and listen to him. It does not mean that it is correct but hey that's their deal. However I have a 7 year old Godson and I actually bought him the CD because he asked me to get it for him. Why you ask well because I believe people have the right to make their own choices. Just because you say something to child does not mean they are going to do it or be influence by it because I would have been arrested many times over instead of being the young apsiring journalist student. So hopefully by exposing my godboy to this kind of thing it is not going to harm him because hell he heard worse from his mother when I bought him the porno for his 5th birthday. Ah it is good to be the good uncle J hehe

WHO WANTS TO BUMP OFF SLIM SHADEY??

That is one man who has alot of issues to deal with. He seems angry about everything and everyone in his life. I saw him once on a local music channel and all the hell he did was curse and flash his middle finger. Damn, if that's how he feels about the media, his ass should never gotten involved with music. I'm not a great fan of rap but I have always enjoyed the way Insane Clown Posse would drag his name in the mud when they appear on Howard Stern Show.

I don't agree with his portrayal of the treatment of women either, yet I will listen to his music quite happily.

Would you recommend that anyone takes action after listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall ?

Nope... same with Eminem.

Same being said I wouldn't buy it for a fourteen year old who is desperately trying to be "cool". It is recommended (in Australia at least) as R Rated music {NC 17} so noone under that age should buy it because the government has limited its access till people are supposedly mature enough to divorce the lyrics from real life. If we cant do that, then free speech you can kiss goodbye.

"It's not a war on drugs, It's a war on personal freedom is what it is. Keep that in mind at all times, thankyou." Third eye - by Tool

There's a lot to be said about Eminem. And even though I dont usually like his style of music. I gotta admit the dude has some good beats.

As far as what his tunes are about I dont really listen to it. Sure the white dude has issues. But that's about it.

Personally I just think he uses it all to get all the attention he wants. And behold. It works.

I wouldn't buy his music to myself or to anyone else for that matter. That would just be plain cruel.

Problem is, kids until age 10-12 or so haven't developed enough to separate fantasy from reality.

A lot of well thought out opinions here. I applaud each of you for standing for your convictions. Personally, I love hip hop and I like rap as well. But those are just musical styles I enjoy. I also enjoy opera and southern gospel. If the lyrics promote something I can't stand behind and support, I don't buy it. And neither do my kids.

Way to go, Indy. Parenting's hard enough these days without having to sift through the music our kids listen to.

I hope you're not serious. If you are, I feel sorry for you and your Godson. Go read a damn child psychology book.

Good for You! I don't listen to this guy's music, so I can't comment on it. BUT, all of us probably listened to some music that our parents' didn't approve of at some time in our lives. If it is the actual music that mom and dad don't like, then I'd think it is just a matter of taste differences. But if the lyrics are offensive, I can't think of a better way to handle it than to talk to the kid and explain why you're opposed to them. You're not attacking the music, or the artist. You're just explaining why something is warped and not true in the RW.

By the way, for those of us on the board who do not listen to this stuff, what is it he says about women that is so offensive?

Eminem what a waste of human space

I for one don't particularly like his music, therefore I don't go and buy it. It is his right to express his views though, however right or wrong they are. I do not and will not say I hate him, I do not know him nor will I, but I dislike inparticular his music and style. But like I always say If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you don't want to listen to it, turn it off. If you don't want to watch it, turn the channel......it is that simple. Enough people do that and all of a sudden a message is sent.

You can read the lyrics to his songs. The Public Service Announcement and Kill You lyrics from the Marshall Mathers LP will give you a perspective of what we are talking about in this thread. You should read other lyrics also to form your own opinion.

Remember, my comments are to his portrayals of women not the RAP style of music.

FUCK YOU

First off do not feel sorry for my Godson. He is a intelligent young boy with a mother who loves him more than life itself, a godfather who is willing to die for him and his father who is in heaven looking down at him with love. \

Second of all I believe that the child is intelligent enough to make his own choices. I know if I did not get him the CD the bootleg man around the corner would sell it to him for $5 bucks no questions asked. So if anyone is gonna get in his ear it is going to be something I feel he can handle. The fact of the matter is you do not get it because you are not from where we are from and you have not been through what we have been through so fact of the matter is you do not know Jack shit what you are talking about. And the next time Melody you want to talk about my godson, I WILL NOT BE SO GODDAMN POLITE.

Sorry if this offended anybody but no one talks about my boy in that way.

I let my son talk me into it...aw dad it's not that bad (this is before I heard it) Bought it on faith, listened to it. I said to my son, "what the fuck is this? no seriously we had to have a talk... a big talk. My opinion and I think he agreed, was that it was so bad that you were seen as being a bad ass dude if you listened to it. Kind of a status symbol but only among the males of his group, the girls didn't like it. Now that doesn't mean go out and buy Brittany Spears. Took eminem&m to video exchange, he lost some bucks on the deal but I took him to get an Insync hair cut and he was cool with that.

THE girl sat next to him at lunch. Chalk one up in the victory column for dad.

BRAVO, BRAVO! You go DAD!

I have a 5 soon to be 6 year old son. Having to actually live with this child day in and day out I have a pretty good idea of his intelligence, maturity, and ability to separate what's real from what's simply lyrical license. He doesn't have any. He still thinks Godzilla is real. No way in hell I'm letting that child near porn or music with questionable lyrics. The reason is that he is not mature enough to process is and make an informed, intelligent judgement regarding it's content. A 5 year old should be taught sexual issues, particularly those revolving around the differences by men and women, but not via pornography, they are not mature enough, it has nothing to do with intelligence but a base of real world experience, to process the images they are receiving. They shouldn't have to deal with it at 5, after all they aren't even close to being sexually developed or having sexual urges. If a person, no matter how well intentioned, gave my child pornography at age 5 and music I objected to at age 7 I would take him into the woods where they wouldn't hear his screams and dismember him in a most painful way with a dull knife and propane blowtorch. Of course, you didn't subject my child to this, so quite frankly, I could care less. I'm sure your Godchild's mother is more than capable of raising her son and being a good mother. Your post indicated that in spades.

As a grown female, perfectly capable of comprehending eminem, I would invite the man to say it to my face. Being a female who is, unfortunately, given to violence, I would dare say he'd not survive it. The StudMuffin, who is even more given to violence, would most strenously object to his vile treatment of women.

I don't know what rock he crawled out from under, but the men I associate with were taught to respect women on a basic level. We are not treated as inferiors, we are not treat as "bitches" or "hos" and we are not chattel. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, in my personal opinion, a blithering, moronic, thoughtless, unintelligent slug with such an inferiority complex that the only way he can make himself feel superior is to pick on those who are weaker than he is. He probably kicks puppies too.

Anybody want to contribute to a fund to buy the muffin family a pair of backstage passes to an eminem concert?
