Yeah, a worldwide emergency number sounds like a good idea to me, really just for convenience sake. I should imagine it'd be a long time before something like that gets implemented though.

Just an aside, but in the U.S. they had to stop advertising "in an emergency dial nine eleven" 'cause people were calling to ask where the eleven key was.

In Denmark it's 112, no matter the emergency

Same in Finland, it used to be 000.
There's also another number for the police, that's 10022.

when I lived in The Netherlands, all those years ago, it was 06-11 for all emergencies. But just about the time I left they were changing it to 112. I think eventually they want to change it to 112 across the EU.

But 999 is still coolest of all
