Earlier, while at mother's house, I saw some items she has put to one side to throw out.

Among them was the leather belt she used for home discipline.

I was only threatened with the belt once, but heard her give my older brother a few lashes once.

Were you ever strapped at home and do you agree with it??

my brother got strapped on the VERY RARE occasion (he was also a hell-demon, so he rather deserved some form of discipline)... I got spoons... usually the wooden spoon, but once a metal spoon.

And no, I don't agree with it.

I think it had to do with my dad's old-school European upbringing.

Nope. My "Clan" wasn't so much the leather belt swinging.

We had a large wooded breadboard with a wooden handle. It was about as square as a 15" monitor.....with a sturdy handle.

It served a dual purpose...for punishments as well as "play" spankings for your birthday. Talk about good and bad. <g>

Our mother had "A Wooden Spoon" Just the sound of the drawer opening and hearing her rattle the cutlery made us all run for cover.

As far as I know she never actally hit any of us.

In fact, I caught her once grinning to herself as she heard the troops retreating.

Never at home, but regularly at boarding school, with anything ranging from a cut strip of tyre rubber to a 4 foot cane......

I disagree with it, and the worst my children have ever felt is a quick smack on the arse, and I can't remember the last time they felt (or needed) that........

Got the belt once or twice - last time I can remember I was about 11 and my sister 13. We had gotten into a fight - she knocked out one of me teeth and I gave her a bloody nose, then dad gave us both red asses!! We never fought like that again!

My kids get my shoe! Last time I smacked a bottom with my hand I broke a blood vessel in my hand and it definately "hurt me more than it hurt them!" Now I threaten to use my shoe, but never have!

They both have gotten the belt from their dad - after lieing about something important, and hopefully that will be a one time thing.
