If you get a new computer, get one of the new Intel-based Macs. Apple introduced a piece of software called Boot Camp that allows the machine to boot into the elegant Mac OS X or Windoze XP. Why you would want to use Windoze when you have access to OS X is beyond me, but some people like beating their head against a wall. Either way, the computer will be the best that money can buy, and you can get a Mac mini for about $600 I think.

hi all... i tried viewing Ekserb's movie with the Quick Time that was on my computer and it wouldn't work.. so I downloaded Quick Time again (assuming it was newer than the version I already had) and it worked perfect

We are bound to get a new computer sometime soon, this one I'm using is already 5yo.
Actually I'm totally ignorant on computers, haven't a clue on how much a Mac might cost over here or how to operate one... all I've ever known is Windows... is the Mac OS easy to learn and handle?

That depends. An ex girlfriend of mine had to buy a new computer while we were dating, and I talked her into a Mac. She had used one before, but had always used Windoze at work so she wasn't as familiar with the slightly different keyboard shortcuts. In fact, she hated it at first. She recognized that the Mac was MUCH more intuitive to use, but she had been schooled for so long in the "Microsoft Way" that she had some trouble forgetting all her bad habits. Now, of course, she hates the fact that she has to use a Windoze computer at work, but still has her PowerBook at home.

The new Intel-based Macs are a great computer for a long-time Windoze user to make the leap from the dark side and start learning how much easier using a computer can be. The online Apple Store has pricing and specs, but I can tell you that a Mac mini is a great little computer. Not a mighty gaming machine, to be sure, but a very small dependable, inexpensive computer that you can install Windoze XP on a drive partition so you will be able to use Windoze for those rare occasions when you want to feel the pain. (You do have to provide a Windoze install disc and any additional software you want to use, and Apple will not support any technical problems you may have, but from what I've read online, the installation goes smoothly and everything works pretty much as it should.)

The next step up is an iMac with a dual core Intel CPU. They are more powerful than the top-of-the-line Power Macs built just a couple years ago (including mine) and they come with everything you need - the computer is completely housed in one unit about the size and thickness of a standard LCD monitor.

By the end of the summer Apple will have replaced their entire lineup with Intel-powered machines, and the new Power Macs will be amazing. And pricey.

Right now I'd say the average user would be best served with an iMac. If you're really on a budget, the Mac mini.

If this sounds like a commercial it's because I really am evangelical about Macs. I have to deal with broken or limping Windoze computers on a daily basis and there is nothing like coming home to a computer that just works every day. No crashes. No virii. No missing drivers.

Tropical Depression One is making its way through the Gulf of Mexico and the weather here in Miami is showing the effects. It's been raining for the past couple of days and it really has ruined my beach plans. (Luckily, I managed to do some tanning the past few weekends, so my tan lines are almost non-existent.)

Since I can't really go out and do anything, I decided to set up indoors for some new pictures. I wanted to give them the feel of being trapped inside on a rainy winter day (even though it's near eighty degrees outside), so I added a photo filter adjustment in Photoshop. I also desaturated the colors by half and I think it works well to create the mood I was after.
