I need to find a good editor (preferably one who has experience in the sci-fi/fantasy genre), but the editor search gave me about 360 or so options. I have no idea which ones are any good or are even active. Rather than just mass PM'ing the lot of them, does anyone have any suggestions on how to narrow the field a bit, or have any particular editors that they might recommend?

I'd recommend checking out some of what the authors on the list have written, find someone whose style you like (or closely matches your own style) or who you think does a good job, and ask them.

The best way to find a good editor is to go with your gut EA. I know the ones on the alternate editor's list are active and pretty good too so maybe you could also take a look there.

If it wasn't for the fact that in less than 2 weeks I'm taking a month-long break I'd be happy to give you a hand but unless you're in no rush to get your story back I don't think I'm in a position to help.

Well, I got two offers out of the 4 requests that I sent. Of course, one of the offers of help came from someone I didn't send a request to, but it was still nice. One person expressed interest, I emailed him back with some details about my story, and I haven't heard back in several days now.
Is there a proper length of time to wait before taking another offer?

Personally I wouldn't wait more than 2-3 days without any reply before taking another offer....AND...and I would send a stroppy email to the person who didn't answer back, just to let him/her know what I think of his/her work ethic.
