MAke sure that Laurel knows it is a replacement for an existing story. If it is handled as a replacement, then the score and vote totals will remain the same.

What WH said. Generally, if an edited version is submitted, I do replace the old text with the new text without creating a new story, so all votes are retained. But DO put a note in the header so I know it's a revision.
