I went out to a 'nice' restaurant this evening, all alone of course.
There was a long line of people in front of me, once I arrived to the front I gave my name smoking preference and said that it was just myself eating. The young man looked at me curiously over his clipboard.. and again asked "Just one?" I replied once more.. "yes, just one."
During the wait they called the names of the people ahead of me and escorted them to their seats. Finally after standing there alone for a period of 30 minutes a table finally became available he looked directly at me and motioned me on. I guess being alone I stood out in his mind and he didn't need to call my name. lol
The service was great, the food wonderful.. no complaints there. I did observe that I received some peculiar looks from others.. especially the men. I figured it was because I was a woman out eating all alone. It made me feel very self-conscious and I ended up reading more of my book than I had intended, I also left just after finishing my meal.. without drinking the rest of that yummy Fuzzy Navel I had ordered.
Bright spot.. the waiter asked me for my id when I ordered my beverage. I thought he was joking at first.. so I giggled a bit and kept looking at him. He smiled and repeated his request. lmao
How many of you actively go out to eat in a decent restaurant alone?
How are you treated by the wait staff? By other customers?
Do you take something to read or anything to keep yourself busy?
