Eating Out Alone

I went out to a 'nice' restaurant this evening, all alone of course. :)
There was a long line of people in front of me, once I arrived to the front I gave my name smoking preference and said that it was just myself eating. The young man looked at me curiously over his clipboard.. and again asked "Just one?" I replied once more.. "yes, just one."

During the wait they called the names of the people ahead of me and escorted them to their seats. Finally after standing there alone for a period of 30 minutes a table finally became available he looked directly at me and motioned me on. I guess being alone I stood out in his mind and he didn't need to call my name. lol

The service was great, the food wonderful.. no complaints there. I did observe that I received some peculiar looks from others.. especially the men. I figured it was because I was a woman out eating all alone. It made me feel very self-conscious and I ended up reading more of my book than I had intended, I also left just after finishing my meal.. without drinking the rest of that yummy Fuzzy Navel I had ordered.

Bright spot.. the waiter asked me for my id when I ordered my beverage. I thought he was joking at first.. so I giggled a bit and kept looking at him. He smiled and repeated his request. lmao :D

How many of you actively go out to eat in a decent restaurant alone?

How are you treated by the wait staff? By other customers?

Do you take something to read or anything to keep yourself busy?

Rarely do I do that. Fortunately I can cook, so the grocery store knows me very well. I didn't pay a lot of money for that stove in the kitchen to just sit there.

IF I do go out, and people do the staring thing, then that's their problem, not mine. I figure i'll probably never see them again anyway, so what the hell...

I'm 36, nd I STILL get carded at Casinos, Bars and buying alcohol.

I rarely do it myself Lobito.. but after this week I needed to get out and be around other human beings that I could see and hear.

Foxy!!

You know that you've been missed!

And yes it is very lonely.. and it makes you feel even more alone in the world when you do. *sigh*

I eat by myself a lot.

But I really like it when someone asks to share a table. ;)

I'll usually eat at the bar if I'm alone. And usually you don't have to wait. Most restaurants only think of the bar as someplace to wait to be seated elsewhere, but they'll gladly serve you there. A little less conspicuous.

I just got home from eating out alone - again.

I usually go to the same old place, and most of the waitstaff fairly well kisses my ass. I tip well, BTW.

I knocked out another fifty pages or so in my book. I always haul something to read with me, or some paper and pens to do a bit of writing.

If that avatar is to be believed, then I doubt the men were looking at you because you were alone. :D

When I eat alone (rarely anymore, but in my single days) I always brought a book, or some work along to go over while eating.

I must be a complete troll Rhys, no one has ever asked to share my table. lol

I considered eating at the bar Blazes.. they do serve you there, but I had on a skirt and well I'm only 5'1". See the problem? lol

The waitstaff was really great at this particular place, mmbb308. Only surprised that I was eating alone.. but still very accomodating to me.

They are still working for tips. They should accomodate.

lol

I think the majority of the looks was because I happened to be alone. The two men eating right across from me.. well I'm not so sure about their reasons.

Had you told me you were available Shingen, I would have. :)

I'm very generous to waitstaff and this was no exception. :)

I often tip a third or more. Waitstaff has to be highly incompetent to get only 15% from me.

I don't mind eating out alone, or going to movies or doing much of anything just by myself... I can be rather independent... but I much perfer company....

I agree mbb.. they have to be horrid to not even get a decent tip.. but I will always still tip regardless.

lmao no emi!! I was cherry shorted.

The movies I don't mind so much SSK.. maybe because it's dark and no one can see me. :)

Had I known kitty I would have cooked you dinner. Would Chicken Alfredo, home made been ok?
Oh and glad you are feeling better *Hug*

Was there any fruit in your drink??

lmao! Emi is so much more subtle than me. I was just going to ask if she lost her cherry this time too. :D

I'd like to see. :D

I'm sure the guys steeling glances were thinking, "wtf is a girl like that doing alone?"

Kitty, let me put forward the following theory.

The maitre'd was surprised that you were eating alone. He remembered you after 30 minutes without having to call your name. You got lots of strange looks from the men in the Resturaunt, but not the women.

Conclusion. Could it be that you are a dish? The Maitre'd couldn't believe that a beautiful woman would have to eat alone. The men all wished that they were with you instead of the women that they were with? The ones that weren't with women were trying to work up the courage to come speak with you?

Just a thought.

That sounds yummy!

Thanks hon.. I needed to get some actual food and really craved a bit of human contact tonight. :)

lol Raina you're just obvious. :D

For some reason I doubt that's what was running through their minds, Blazes. Emi knows the restaurant I'm talking about and how hard it was for me to get into those high back chair things the last time.. and I wasn't wearing a skirt and heeled sandals then, as I was tonight. lol

I doubt that you are a troll.

I volunteered at the desk. Sometimes I get somebody worth talking to and sometimes I don't

I got used to eating alone a long time ago and it doesn't bother me

Dave was my waiter tonight. I loathe Dave. His one error was minor. I left $5 for a $14.19 check. That'll buy him a couple of house shots after he quaffs his shift drink.
