D'yall ever meet in person? Like organized gatherings?

Just idly wondering if there are ever any meet ups or organized gatherings. Like a mini conference or something?

I'd love to sit and watch panels with some of the prominent authors here talking about what they do.

I'm in Vegas in a couple of weeks, anyone want to meet and chat (and JUST chat )?

I think the last Litogether was in Chicago the year before I joined. There were a few attempts after that, but no one seemed willing or able to assume responsibility for organizing it.

There was a bit more respect here then, but there still was Scouries and BFW and TxRad and Pilot and JBJ. And I think there still is a good deal of respect around here; the members of the AH I've met in person have all been good folk.

Anybody up for trying another Litogether?

LOL! Well yeah it is. I'm like 4-5 hours south of Chicago. Love it there, I find new laces every time I go. Last time we all fell in love with a place called Cheesies. Best grilled cheese sandwiches and they serve drinks there too!

I saw someone mention Amsterdam...I 'might' be going there next year, depends on what happens in my life between now and then.

Those Chicago get together were a long time ago...like 2006 or 2007. A decade ago. I went to the last one in Chicago, I happened to live there at the time. It was fun. The wine was flowing freely. Met a lot of nice people going to those Litogethers back then. We may not have gotten along on the boards, but in person everything was cool. At least no fist fights ever broke out.

That's the net in a nutshell. Bandwidth courage has replaced Alcohol's liquid courage for the perpetually bullied in real life to act like a hotshot with anonymity to protect them.

I've met a couple lit members, oddly enough considering this is where I spend most of my time, they weren't from this board. Spoken to a couple others on the phone and same deal.

Last year four of us from the GB were supposed to get together in NJ, but then everyone's schedule went to hell.

There's a lot of people here I like and would love to meet. But then again I'm not a persona. Five minutes with me in person you'd know who I was. For those putting on airs a personal meeting would be a disaster.

I've attended two Litogethers. Both here in Texas. Between the two, probably twenty five different Lit citizens. Only one person was ever a problem. Otherwise a great time was had by all.

I missed both the Chicago Lits as I was out of the country for both. Bad timing on the part of my work. There were lots of great people I wanted to meet personally.

The lady who organized both Chicago Lits is no longer here at Lit. She got outed shortly after the last one. No to mention there were real life problems with a litogether that large.

I own a large discussion board something like this one (though it has nothing to do with literature or erotica) - and many of the members have met on many occasions. We have a bigger percentage of international membership thanI see here, yet our members pony up and make the trip.

It's amazing how those meetings calm the negative posts and trolling. You'd meet someone you've been fighting online for years, share a few drinks, buddy up, and leave as friends. The online dialog takes a very different tone after that.
