Dune

I'm just glad I have never seen the previous versions because this one looks to finally be the legit one.

Good casting, looks like maybe someone actually read the book this time, nice muted style. Already better than Lynch's.
They never get the worms right tho. I wonder why.

Why not?

Hopefully, they got the pacing right. The Lynch version was ponderous, like the last few books...though sting and the spaceship pilot were cool.

I don't think I have ever seen a movie made from a book that I thought was better than the book. I loved the Dune series even though it got a little crazy in places. I have not seen a movie of it that I cared for much at all. Perhaps I will check out this one. Though it has been a long time since I read the original.

I've not seen any of the movies or shows, but I remember reading the first book back when I was a skid and thinking it was too long LOL. Mind you, I was like 10 or something.

Just ordered the trilogy hardback. I'm a big girl now. :D

That'd be an interesting thread.

It's worse when they completely fail the book or the original movie. Shits me to tears.

Unpopular opinion, but I liked Lynch's version.

I agree.

Bringing a story like "Dune" to life on the big screen was a monumental challenge at the time, and I thought Lynch did yeoman's work.

I believe it has attained a bit of cult status, so he did something right.

Ill probably go see it but there were whole chapters that I had no idea what the fuck was going on. :)

Mark me down as a huge fan of Lynch's adaptation. It's captivated me for years and years. I re-watch it perennially. Fabulous cast, elaborate sets...I really struggle to understand why people, at least those who would embrace the source material, don't like it. It's been a long time since I was boned up on the book enough to debate, but my takeaway was that the movie was almost beat-for-beat the first book. Those vocal cannons, the ...weirding modules....I felt were the only liberty Lynch took.
So much of the language in the script has become part of my vernacular.

I was not able to get though the SciFi adaptations, so there is something to it.

This trailer looks beautiful. Despite that I'm only "eh" on watching the movie. I'll see it, but I feel like I've seen it, and I'm in no hurry to see it again. Denis should have cast and shot Dune Messiah, just keep going where Lynch left off, with this kind of gusto. Anything else is starting to feel like seeing Bruce Wayne's parents get shot in every remake of Batman. I wonder if this movie will end up being a multi-million dollar event that no one asked for?

The trilogy I ordered will be delivered by courier in 2hrs 35mins according to tracking. I'm excited.

Hi IFB! I've not seen the Lynch movie but after reading your post, I want to.

Hey toots!
I think Lynch's movie holds up to this day. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it if you do see it. A friendly PM with slightly forward, suggestive subtext would be marvelous. Maybe throw in some rare verbs. I like uncommon action words.

Warning though...you may end up like me feeling like "it's been done". Also be sure to see the theatrical cut. There are a handful of Alan Smithee releases that feature a lot more context, but they are only for completionists. The proper directed by Lynch release is what you want.

Meh. It has been done and redone. Studios seek easy profits with flashy remakes.
