I have been looking at my voters' handbook and my sample ballot, for the primary election next month. :cool:There are two dueling initiatives, Prop. 98 and 99, both of them supposedly to keep governments from seizing private property to sell it to developers. 99 applies only to owner occupied residences and 98 applies to any private property, but it also includes an attack on rent control. :rolleyes:The one with the more votes would win, asuming they both pass, which is a certainty.

It's a no brainer that 98 is better, but I wonder about the rent control part. :confused:One of the laws governing initiatives is that they must cover only one issue, and this appears to include two different issues. They are related, but they seem to me to be different enough to disquality the initiative if it gets passed with the higher number of yes votes. :( I have to wonder if the rent control is a poison pill, put there by the alleged proponents to sink the initiative if it ever starts to go anywhere.

Prop. 99 just doesn't go far enough.

I disagree. 99 is the one I'm voting for. 98 is a stinker beyond the question of rent control, something that is fading rapidly anyway.
