In Manche - the department of France - which sticks up at the top, where Cherbourg is - the Education authority, at the request of teachers, decided to have a Drug information programme.
The group who were to provide this decided to give a questionaire out before they started, just to have some idea of where the kids were already at.

Then one of the team suggested that they should give it to the teachers as well. The questions were about the effects, desirable and undesirable of each drug, the risks involved, the length of time in the system and prevalence of use.

The kids got almost 19/20 overall - the teachers, 11/20.

How many other things are our kids better informed about than us?

Hmmmm.....you'd think today's teacher's would have gotten a better score than this.....

So did they..

The French government has mediacally accepted a reclassification of drugs and published a little boooklet which sold out within days. My copy is dog-eared because the kids have consulted it so much.

I think this has helped the young people be very-well informed, but adults didn't think they needed to read it.

The teachers can't afford the drugs, the kids can. So of course the kids know more.

ummmm, I don't understand this statement. The gov did what in who's back yard?

kids are more aware of drugs at such an earlier age these days. The only personal study i have been able to conclude is

having been a pupil at a 2 form primary school in s.wales u.k (ages 7-11) i knew very little about drugs apart from my parents drank coffee, booze and smoked cigareetes i knew not to do this

Going back to the same school 13 years later as a trainee teacher the conversations that i over heard regarding drugs were very prolific e.g 7yr old expaining about someone who comes over his house to help his older brother score Marijuana, amphetamines and exstacy tablets. This is rough and something does need to be done to kurb the information about drugs that pupils can be bombarded with.

I am in agreement that we need lessons in schools to give the lessons drugs the effects and side effects but its the media that needs to take more involvement in it by working alongside the government and not against it.

Prime example was the Leah Betts story (not sure wether u.s. papers would have reported it) but they put a picture of the girl dead in her hospital bed and published it. Good move but more has to be done

Drugs is not sexy as much as people like to believe.

I would like to read the report that you mentioned is there anyway of getting me a copy
