That was a joke really. I don't plan to draw on smaller paper or get a bigger scanner. I like the size I work on, and the scanner I have is fine so I'm not spending money on a new one. For now, I just do this for fun.

I think I'm getting the hang of this color thing. It has been rather theraputic to start drawing, again. I'm happy I can share these since most of my life people have been telling me I'm good, but I have a hard time believing them. I think I should look at it differently. That being "good" isn't really necessary. Everyone has the ability to create art. Stick figures ARE art. ^_^ At least that's what I've been taught. Time to practice what I've learned.

Stick figures are not (necessarily) "art".
They are visual self-expression. Under some circumstances, could be categoriezed as "art"... Keith Haring's ("inflated") stickish figures...?

I believe that you are right "That being 'good' isn't really necessary.", but if by "good" we/you mean "showing some mastery", then that is an admirable goal: continued growth and improvement. It seems you are well onto that path.

It is nice to see your work and read your thoughts, thanks for sharing.

This looks totally awesome. This kid has a fantastic internal body. The topic was, "what dose the body look like under the skin."

I think we all see it a little differently. I'm on the side of even scribbles on the side of your notebook are art. It's an expression. If I didn't see it that way, I'd spit everytime I see a canvas splashed with paint.

My thoughts lie in making people feel comfortable. If they feel they can only draw stick figures, those are the best damn stick figures I've ever seen. One can work up to mastery, which is indeed admirable.

I still contend that "art" needs some level of of "standards"...that is to say "mastery" / "artistry" or the terminology is pretty much hollow.

If one claims to be an "artist", there is an implication of competency.
If "we are all artists", then I am a "musician", I am an "athlete"... etc...


a flip side... is the "splash paint" facet of art.
Pollock did it (as have others) in a context of society...
and now..it has been done, to the extent that, I argue, that form of self-expression no longer qualifies as "art". (there may be some exceptions...)

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I can appreciate someone with talent. But I wont look down on someone for not being "competent" especially if they do it for fun. And hell, if someone wants to pay them to do it, good for them!

There is a difference between an "artist" and a "highly skilled artist." I suppose that it takes training to do that, the same with becoming a musician or an athlete. Thank goodness no one ever told me my stick figures in kindergarten weren't art.

I hope that others will feel free to join in and post something. After all, this is Draw Club. Even if it's stick figure porn.

Perhaps you use modifiers: "fine art"? "graphic art"? "commercial art"?...
