the storm surge covered huge swathes of the islands... one pastor took shelter on his 3rd floor from the rising waters - that floor (and he) got swept away and he was fortunate enough to end up in a tree for 2 days before finding safety. so a 30' wall of water, waves, hurricane force winds, for hour after hour after hour... and someone asks 'how could this happen?'. beggars belief. it's science.

and for all those people begging god to 'save them' and being lucky enough not to perish in the storm? while i understand people often need something religious to believe in, it still sickens me that they then assume (and 'thank' god) for saving them when so many others have died... babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, employed and unemployed, sick and healthy alike; what makes that individual who didn't die feel they were more special in the eyes of their god and so were saved? why should a murderer deserve to be saved more than a new baby? or a racist piec of shit over a teenager who's spent their life raising funds for leukemia? (hypothetical examples only, not to be quote as factual)

-- Did people misjudge by staying in wooden houses, instead of seeking shelter in brick or concrete neighboring ones?

According to Wikipedia: In terms of gross domestic product per capita, the Bahamas are richer than the US and Canada.

Some of the few islands which haven't been completely plundered by outside corporations, a small part of the earnings from tourism went to the general population too.

It has to do with Bahamians getting into the States even for temporary evacuation. Senator Rubio has asked that immigration law be relaxed for the emergency and the government hasn't responded yet. All of those 1,400 evacuees who just landed in Florida on a cruise ship? They all have papers in order for visitation (or are Americans to begin with).

Don't be dumb about what Trump and his immigration policy has to do about racism, though. Pretty much everything. They aren't Norwegians. You Trumpettes are soooo stupid--and not fooling anyone.

I googled and authorities did advise people appropriately: to leave lower islands and seek shelter in higher islands, and so on.

Yet about 40 people in Abacco decided to stay and try 'to ride it' at home. Decision which possibly cost their lives.
