Years ago, I tried to teach my wife how to bake biscuits and cornbread. She eventually found reciepes. She had trouble with my way, well about that much flour, around this much shortening, this much buttermilk, this much salt...
Cornbread went over about as well
It works for me and it is rare anyone complains on my cooking.
