Does True Love Exist?

I wouldn't say the feelings for my girlfriend at the moment are true love, yet... but they're not puppy love, either. We've known each other for quite a while, and we agreed to start dating because we both wanted to, and because we trust each other. She knows I would never intentionally hurt her, just as I know she wouldn't do the same to me. We know each other well enough that I can say I love her, in whatever fashion it may be, but it's been developed over time. If I had started dating her as soon as I had met her, I couldn't have argued against puppy love, but I am wholly invested in trying to make this work, and supporting her as she supports me, even when she's moody and angry and ranting... or when I'm the same.

As I've said before, true love does exist, as long as you're willing to trust someone. Whether it's your best friend, your lover, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend... there's true love to be found somewhere.

I am willing to, and do, trust, doesn't mean I'm IN love with someone. Because it doesn't exist. Love exists...yes...i love my family, my friends (though sometimes I truly wonder why! lol).

But true love as in heart pounding, sweaty palms, can't live with out that person love......??? nope.

No. True love is only in myths and fairy tales.

I happen to believe that True love does exist
If it doesn't I am so totally screwed :)

What Can I say I just Happen to love my Wife, Sometime I am not to happy with her, but love her all the same

Oh it does, it just has a shorter shelf life than other kinds of love

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me, thats the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams

Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her if I tried

I thought love was more or less a given thing
It seems the more I gave the less I got
Whats the use in trying, all you get is pain
When I needed sunshine I got rain

Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I'm in love

Love is in the heart. Love is different for every person.

And I am jaded into thinking it quite possibly does exist, just not in my world :(

LMAO Good one! Still think it's all smoke and mirrors...no matter what The Monkees say. lol

...just a thought....does love denote power?...

...when one gives thier love uncontisionally, do they take the stance of being in a weaker position for having done so?

Is it better to hold back a part of yourself when you fall in love with someone, and if you do, is it still "true love"?

...I say....love does exist...it is a commodity that can be traded and sold..
It is expensive to maintain, goes bad with time, and causes reality to be viewed absurely...

...but with a Maaco paint job, it can be shiney for others to admire...

I haven't read the responses yet, so some of this may have been said already....

I think there is power involved in love, just not the kind most people generally think of. The way I see it, you're basically holding the other person's heart in your hands. You're ultimately responsible for the care of that heart.

Can't say whether it's good or bad to hold back a part of yourself. For me, it wouldn't be "true love" if I held anything back - it's just who I am.

It must be very sad for you to not believe in something as special as true love... having had the experience of true love, I eagerly await finding my next true love.........:rose:

Not sure if this was directed at me or not, but if it was, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. I was responding to what Sirgary had said.

Yes, I firmly believe that true love does exist.

I say true love isn't about power, but about surrender. It's about gift, not reception. When love is given freely from one to another, there is no regard for power or inequality- the two just want to give more and more love to one another.

Love does put the lovee in the position of being able to hurt the lover, sure. But if that is seen as power, then the lovee doesn't truly regard the gift as love. If he/she did, there is no way he/she would ever exploit it.

I think love grows, and in a society where "love" is thrown around so carelessly, I think it's normal to hold oneself back, at least a little, while falling in love. The cool part is when you don't have to do that anymore, when you've given yourself completely and you don't have to be afraid anymore.

Love that is true is respectful, not demanding, not limit-setting, not conditional, and it is given freely without expectation. There is not enough true love in this world.

That is beautifully put :)

You're quite welcome lass :)

I know not everyone shares my opinions and sometimes I keep my mouth shut, even when I feel strongly... and love is something that I've been thinking about a lot for awhile now... so it's nice when someone else appreciates my thoughts.

Well the ability to have our own opinions and share those opinions is one of the things that makes this country great. And one of the reasons I signed up to fight for this here country

And I thank you for that. I belong to Soldier's Angels- do you have an Angel?
