I wouldn't say the feelings for my girlfriend at the moment are true love, yet... but they're not puppy love, either. We've known each other for quite a while, and we agreed to start dating because we both wanted to, and because we trust each other. She knows I would never intentionally hurt her, just as I know she wouldn't do the same to me. We know each other well enough that I can say I love her, in whatever fashion it may be, but it's been developed over time. If I had started dating her as soon as I had met her, I couldn't have argued against puppy love, but I am wholly invested in trying to make this work, and supporting her as she supports me, even when she's moody and angry and ranting... or when I'm the same.
As I've said before, true love does exist, as long as you're willing to trust someone. Whether it's your best friend, your lover, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend... there's true love to be found somewhere.
