Does this annoy anyone else?

In spite of what this member name might suggest, I've been around literotica for several years. One thing that makes literotica difficult to keep up with is how prolific the threads tend to get. 10+ pages is not at all uncommon. If that thread is full of 10 pages of engaging conversation and discussion, then great :D But when two people start engaging in what should likely be a Private Message conversation, I feel that this is selfish.

I'm not going to name names. I love you guys and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But if you find yourself basically "chatting" with one person in a thread - do us a courtesy and take it to PMs. Unless, of course, the discussion is something we could all benefit from. But if it basically turns into everyone reading in on a cybersex session, then a thread could easily be ruined.

I understand that some of you might have exhibitionist tendencies (I know I do!) and enjoy everyone watching your erotic exchange of dialogue, but start another thread if you want to do that.

Am I off base by saying this or does anyone agree?

agree/disagree

Myself like threads to remain public as it offers the possibily of external parties to jump in on the action.

If a thread goes private all sorts of input are nullified.

More work in following the train of thought but more valuable in the sense that any intrested parties have their say.

I think what exvitermini means is when it goes from the topic to basically a coversation between two/three people saying "Hi" or talking about something amongst themselves that has nothing to do with the original topic of interest.

Yes, it bothers me... especially when there is more than one page that I have to scroll threw to get back on the original topic!!

I'm fairly new to the bulletin boards and I've already found that some of the threads are horrible to read through because there's sooooo many pages of people just having more personal posts to each other rather than posts about the topic.

OK. I see the point. Yes it bothers me too.

Some posters on Lit. seem to have alot of time on their hands and post for the sake of posting. Can be annoying but what can you do except comment on a thread like this?

Openess is valuable though as people often pop up in the middle of a thread with good material.

I think some posters with lots of time on their hands don't realize that for some people access time is quite limited.

Believe it is possible to have a thread edited by its poster. A bit cumbersome as someone would have to edit out the chaff but would provide a clean thread.

Dont think it is done much as each time I post it goes directly up.

I think that if we could expect anything to happen as a result of this thread, it is simply that maybe in the future, literoticans with a lot of time on their hands will take conversations to PM's, or if they really would like external input, resume the conversation in a new thread.

It's just courtesy.

The same as in real life when if a group of people are having a discussion and suddenly two out of the group discover something in common and start their own discussion. If it is just for a while, then it is fine, but if they continue (for several "pages") without removing themselves to another place, then it is pretty rude.

I have no problem with people hijacking a thread ..I have had threads taken over but only after I get the advice or answers I am looking for after that I don't care what they do ...I had one thread on hell i do not remember but after awhile three people took it over who shall remain nameless but I loved where they took it and would peek in on them because they made it interesting ...So no I have no prob with this at all ..Take care and havre a great day

I should go dig it up and post on it again. Its gotten thousands of views.lol

 to you KNight
LOL yeah E.E you was the one I had in mind ..I still loved what you did with it and would love to see you take it over again ..I think there were many who looked in to see what was going on ..It became sorta a soap for me ..The Continueing adventures Of E.E. and friends..Hope to see you around ((((((E.E.))))))..Take care and have a great day:rose:

try putting this on the general board... a lot more people would see it there... :)

I don't mind if two people start chatting with each other in the middle of a thread, as long as it's interesting. I have had lots of entertaining reading and felt kind of like a fly on the wall during some of those. It usually gets back to the subject at hand...

It also makes threads MUCH longer

and more difficult to read with all the quotes. It is not uncommon for one writer to post a long but well thought out and interesting reply....only to have someone quote the ENTIRE thing, just to add "what he said" at the end !! What is the point of that ???!!!Sometimes it happens many times on just one thread.

Result...long, long threads (and I assume all that stuff is taking up server space somewhere)

Now if people could just be business like and post something like ..."Fredspankmebottom's answer on the 12th...brilliant reply " and so on. Hey presto...shorter, tighter threads

Okay..moan over, and preparing to be shot at..........

Agree with you 100%.

Consider as well that some posters have "signature' sections that are rather extensive as well.

Do people figure that a high surface area increases the value of a post?

My personal rule here is that I personally type out anything I wish to quote. Since I can't really type it assures brevity.

Actually there are a good number of posters on Lit. who are always concise and effective. Its just that the 'bells and whistles'/quote types roll out alot of space.

Hopefully on more serious threads the quote over quote is kept to a minimum.

I dont know what happened with bell and RV, but ill give it some thought and post on it, get it started again.

You have a onderful day handsome:kiss:

Unfortunately I went through a shitty time and didn't really have much desire for anything other than sleep amd reading LOTR. But, I'm back now and RV and I are having a jolly ol' time writing joint works.... That's the good thing that came from a really long thread. Me personally, if there are too many frickin posts on a thread, I say fuck it and move on. I gained from my experience of a drastically long thread. If it's interesting enough, you'll read it. Besides, I think it would be kinda hard to have a three way conversation thru PM's.

PS to Sir Knight.... I apologize for taking you over, and my toenails are red again :D

Sweetie you can Hijack my threads anytime you please ..as for your toe nails how about posting a pic of those lovley toes....Btw I love your av I had no idea you wetre so beautiful it is nice to see what some here look like ..I am thinking of putting a real life av of me soon but first i have to get out out of my neck brace.Take care and have a great day:rose:

Knightstalker,

If I had a digital camera I would post a pic of my toenails, just for you...;) That pic I took of myself at work. I got a friend to resize a different one but I had sent that one as well, he did them both. I guess I just decided that it was time let myself out to play. I'm proud of how I look now, whereas before I wasn't at all. Hopefully you're doing alright.... looking forward to the real Sir Knight AV :D

...and there you have a hijack. I do find it rude, because as stated before, people are trying to have a conversation about one topic, and a couple of people interupt making it difficult to get back on topic again. My personal opinion is, if you want to talk personally to one or two people, pm them or start your own thread, but don't interupt conversations that other people are having. That's rude IRL and it's rude online. If you aren't interested in the topic of the thread, then step out of it. Other people might still want to participate, and having to look through post after post, and sometimes page after page of crap to find the next on topic post is annoying and very disrespectful to the thread starter.

Geez Rose chill out a bit this thread has been on here for awhile now and not seen much attention if we didn't talk on it once in awhile it would dissapear altogether...As for being hijacked not really all we did was talk to each other for a few minutes ...You should become the hijacked thread police opps there I go again i guess I am hijacking this thread by answering you now see what yopu made me do ..stop it :p

How facinating. Not only did I manage to get my point across, it was illustrated in real time in this very thread. No, Knightstalker, you didn't completely hijack the thread, and yes, it had pretty much died and went away. But the point was illustrated nontheless and I thought that was amusing.
