Does Laurel Put Her Thumb On The Scale?

In recent days I noticed that the reader counter was turned OFF on my tales. Then I read where Laurel says she turns off counters where she suspects funny business. The counters are ON again so I guess she found no funny business.

It could also be the fact that Manu has been fighting with the system over the past week or so. Different sections have been up and down at odd times.

Youre on IGGY, speak louder! Or one of your alts.

TEX? You got any idea how pleasant you are when youre on IGGY? Shoulda done it long ago.

TEX this is the life! With YOU, STELLA, AND PILOT on IGGY, life is good.

Don't know If I'm still on you iggy list, but Tex mentioned the recent site problems that Manu has been fighting, as perhaps the root of the problem.

I don't know what is happening, software wise but Lit has been slow and confusing for a week or so.

Another idea might be that you are just not getting the reads because of the scores you've gotten. I've noticed over the last few years that my highest rated chapters get the most reads, even though the chapters around them are not that much different in scores.

Your scores are improving, so maybe you'll do better in the future?

No reads at all over the whole opus for a few days. Nada. Now theyre reading again.

I dont know what you mean by low scores. Compared to what? Folks like you and Tio who one-bomb and pad your scores with alts? Maybe Laurel helps her favorites out with some thumb pressing snafus. She can do it, and she doesnt offer any explanations when things grind to a halt. Yuh think?

I know, "Just because you're paranoid doesn't meant they are not out to get you?"

The approximate 'average' for a story is about 4.2. as far as I can see. I'd never 1 bomb anyone Jimmy. The worst I give is a three in order to encourage people to write. I figure if they keep writing, at least they are off the street. :D

Nope, just your paranoia showing through.

I keep track. Like, when PILOT blows town the snarky comments stop.

My scores are mostly 1's or 5's, thats pretty good evidence of intentional BS. I do the stats, and the piles are 1s and 5s.

Funny because three is technically an okay score, but people have gotten to the point when they get even a four they bitch it lowered their score.

I want to know how you track your scores. All I ever see is an average, the only way I know if someone has given me a specific score is when they comment "Hey awesome 5*, or you suck and your characters do too 1*. Even then they could say 1* and give you 5.....Not being a smart ass, just want to know if there truly is a way to track the votes.

The only way to "track" is to obsessively follow your score and "do the math". Its easy when the total is low I.E. 5 votes and a 25 means all 5's then 6 votes and 26 you got bombed. For some categories its easy, especially for a new author with no fan base.

My first story here was in BDSM, not the highest voted cat to begin with and I was brand new. I think my story got maybe 50 votes in the first week it was up.

But once you hit hundreds of votes you have to be pretty damn anal to keep going with that.

I don't get caught up, but I still find it frustrating that once you hit 1000= votes it can take over a dozen 5's to move you up .01, but a single one bomb will always drop you that .01

That's why I cringe when I put something new on. Suddenly all of your stuff get re read and some jerks one bomb your entire catalog just for grins. Cest la vie.

That sounds about right, Tex, and JBJ is right, too. It took two days before reads were being recorded on my latest chapter, Only You, although people were commenting, sending me feedback, and voting. Votes were being tallied.

At the moment, and for most of the day, I've been unable to log in to my account. I was unable to come to the forum section until now. I can log in here, but I can't log in to my account yet. Every time I try, I get that spinning thingy that won't quit.

The difficulty of logging in has been happening on and off for the past week and a half. I sure do hope they fix the bug soon. :(

On Edit: I've been able to log in. I don't know for how long, but I'm in! Yay!

I wonder if this is a "bug" or the side effect of more "upgrades" that non one asked for and that no one seems to notice the result of.

The real crappy thing is that they have decided to fool with the site during a contest. Lit was down a good part of last night. The people who entered must be pissed and you can't get those "first day" views and votes back.

You can crunch the numbers regardless of the totals, they only go together one way. Its like sorting a billion for all the common factors. Using a computer to run the operation is quick.

Bottomline is, scores shouldn't be skewed at the extremes of the distribution.

I noticed the reader problem when I saw 24 votes from 27 reads. That's beyond improbable. Whats that? 90% voting? Sure.

I like the fact that so many people try the "I don't care about the scores" but man we all know enough about them and talk about them a lot and notice when they rise and fall.

I admit that I like seeing a red H, but I also know that's because lit is soft voted and once you have enough of a following all your stories will do fairly well.

All my incest stuff has high marks because that is where my core audience is. So honestly the H's there mean nothing to me.

On the other hand I get a kick out of getting them in categories "outside" my box such as group/mature/fetish and I even have one in non/con.

Scores shouldn't matter, if theyre real scores. Its like pissy Commodus stabbing Maximus in the back before they fight. Why does PILOT come to mind?
