Does God only exist because Man does?

modest mouse said:
Yes, obviously.

Yeah, what Modest said.

The most basic religions of the world were created simply to answer those questions deemed to be unanswerable at the time. The religions of today are just sophisticated versions of those.

I would definitely have to say yes. I mean the only reason there is a religion is so that some unseen figure can give you rules that you obey. I actually believe that there has to be some higher being that has given us guidance and direction throughout the centuries but why do we have to base religions on a whole amount of rules. That is why people fight over them, it is stupid and pathetic. There is no reason for it because you have to think on one thing..... who is God really. The basic answer is that he is the head of every religion, he or she just has a different name in them. If everyone thought that way they would see that there is no reason to fight they way they do over this.

From the agnostics corner...

Who can know if a God or gods exist at all?
None of us here, certainly.

And what does it matter?
I'll go on being the person i am, as will you, whether or not any gods exist up in heaven, in the banyan tress, or as folktales passed down through the millennia.

Man created religion.

Therefore Man created God.

Nope. Religion is not God. Religion is merely man's attempt to define god. If there is a god he would be so poweful that man would in no way be able to define him in completly. The religon would only define part of god a sliver of his enter being. Organized religon is bad, since no person could ever hope to define a truly all powerful god. Even if some special people such as prohets did exist with a more intimate way to communicate with god how would he translate what god was to the masses? He can't give the masses his gift, so they could never really understand as he did.

Religon is not god and god is not religon. They are seperate things. You can have religon with god and you can have god without religon. You can't however have religon without people.

Perhaps a fully evolved Man will have no need for God, invention or not.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

:D

That has to be the best thing that I have ever heard about religion in my life. Azwed.... you have just put religion into a whole new perspective and defined it. It is just a pity that nobody will ever listen and that is what makes us crazy.

I assume you're including "Women" as a subset of "Man", right?

I *love* your nick.

YEP!

:)

Cymbidia, I would never include Women as a subset of Man, they are unique, but occasionally intersecting, ones. Thank God.

Thank you. That is my own personal philosphy on organized religion and is why I don't like it and no longer participate in it. I think that there is some kind of all powerful something out there, but I don't know what it is and don't think anyone else does either. Whatever is out there might appear different to every person. Sort of like a custom tailored god to fit or own mindsets and personalities. I live my life by my own personal moral code and try not to rack up too many negative Karma points along the way. Any that I do get should easily be erased by the many good things I have done.

Extrapolating from your original assertion, then, that "a fully evolved Man will have no need for God" may one then correctly theorize that (1) women are already fully evolved, or (2) women need not be included in the discussion for some reason, or (3) women are God, and, as such, occasionally intersect with the race of Man?

But what you wrote is nearer to the truth than most people like to admit.

Even to themselves..

Another reason the NLCFers don't like me. I have some damn pathetic stuff I am gonna post about them next week. Can't now since I am at home and not at my apartment and I need to scan stuff into the computer.

This is not for extrapolation.

This is what I think.

I may get a lot of shit about this one but I think that the stupidest thing that humankind did was organize religion. I mean why do we have to put rules onto something like religion. What is the use of it?

Most wars have been started because of organized religion, look at what is happening in Afghanistan and that is because of religion. I know they are saying it is because of terrorism but it just because of one person's beliefs that it is all happening.

Why do we have to screw everything that is good in this world. Let people pray and worship in there own way and maybe this world would be a much better place.
