Does EC not like anal?

Just curious if it's me or is Erotic Coupling not receptive to anal (DP). I have a story that went live today, and it's sinking fast.

I don't think my writing has suddenly gotten worse, but who knows.

I'm not complaining about the score, though it is my lowest scoring story. Maybe it'll pop back up, above 4 would be nice.

I had a commentor on one story thank me for the Anal tag, because it kept him from reading "five pages of that crap."

Obviously he didn't read it, because the anal was only one scene.

That's why I really hate categories sometimes.

I've written several stories where I was basically forced to chose which audience to target because my story featured several different kinks but I could only pick one to publish in.

Other than trump categories like incest. GM, NC I think you can get away with mixing different things, but there will always be some people who get a bug up their ass about something. Heh...

Anal is kind of an outlier, seems to be a love or hate thing. I had a mom son story earlier this year, and it was something I'd originally published for sale a few years back. In the original there's anal sex at the end(pardon the pun) but here I wanted it to be more romantic so cut that scene out. However, earlier on the mother mentions anal sex.

So of course in the comments...I had people claiming I teased them with anal, but didn't deliver it. I later had a couple that said they were glad I didn't include it which just proves....damned if you do etc...

I like the "that's not a way to treat your mother" comments(sister as well) so...you can fuck mom, she can blow you, she can talk and act like a porn star, but anal crosses the line. I love people's weird lines they draw on things here.

When I wrote my first I/T story a few years ago, I debated whether or not to include anal. I had read in the AH that E&V and EC were tolerant of anal (and other kinks), so I read a few of the all-time top-list stories in seven of the 'general' categories and found that you had to go well down the lists before you found anything other than plain vanilla sex.

I ended up including the anal scene. The story was well received but had a couple of comments that a good mother would never let her son fuck her ass.

I allude to anal sex in stories posted in Celebrity/Fan Fiction, Novels/Novellas, and Incest/Taboo. No negative comments or adverse scoring with any of them.

I only have explicit anal sex scenes in the I/T category and it was well received by the readers there. But, it was more of a pseudo-incest relationship (step-uncle/niece) so that might be why anal was accepted.

Yeah, anal isn't everyone's cuppa. I love it, but that's me. I have an EC story that includes anal. Didn't bother the audience, as far as I can tell. Not one comment, no message filing a formal complaint.

That said, EC may be a tough sell. Is it a category we're relegated to when the others don't fit or they're not the emphasis we want to make?

I've covered several categories in my works. The EC one has the fewest reads, fewest votes. Could be the category, not the content.

I have one EC story featuring anal sitting at 4.65 and another featuring even more anal at 4.62.

I have one EC story with no anal in it at a lowly 4.17, though that was before I had figured out categories and it should have been in Romance.

Let me tell you, that Anonymous guy is very difficult to please. He has wildly contradictory views, even about the same story sometimes.

He's such a pest, that Laurel added in a setting where you can specifically block his comments(!) but he's sent me far more nice comments than mean ones, so I'd never dream of blocking him

(Both stories have unique twists though; neither depict normal, mundane pegging)

My rule of thumb, when an OP asks a question and provides an answer that's self-referential, they were right the first time .

Partly it's that Anal's a trump, partly it's that EC doesn't have a devoted readership. I think of it as a "pass-through" category, where people who are more apt to enjoy other stuff stop by to browse if there's nothing more on offer. I dislike posting there mostly because I tend to dislike reading there.

You mention it's a DP? If I'd been reading it, I probably would have expected it to be in Anal or Group.

I have had adverse comments about anal in some other places - I had a very brief and not explicitly described anal scene in one LW story and had one comment about it. I think it’s the “any kind of anal = gay male” fraternity.

Most guys I have been intimate with admit to at lest some solo anal play when masturbating, if just a finger. Several liked pegging or anilingus on occasion, but maybe not that regularly. I say, why not enjoy your prostate. When God created guys, She gave them that tingly bit for a reason.

I obviously appreciate that “guys I have been intimate with” is a very biassed sample.

That's the point, and what the OP is asking: it's not true that "there are no rules."

I'd say a rule is "don't put squicky stuff in EC if you want it to find an audience who'll appreciate it." I get that anal sex is not squicky to a lot of people, and I'll readily acknowledge that a bit of assplay that falls short of penetration isn't really squicky at all... but a DP probably is.
