Is it me, or has their entire customer service department become totally incompetent?

I have never had any problems with the eBay service before now, and they're dragging me in circles and I honestly don't think they're even paying attention to what I'm writing in my E-Mails to them.

Argh.

I used to buy various things through ebay until I had a problem. The customer service was rude and unhelpful, so I told them I would never use the site again...and I haven't for about a year now.

I never use ebay.. but the same thing happened when I emailed MSN about the messenger service like a dozen times. It was the same cut and paste answer over and over... I was seething.

You! ;)

Grrrr...I have a new found hatred for ebay myself. I was selling a lot of stuff on there...and then they suddenly terminated my account for selling things that I saw dozens of other people selling all the time. They seem very fickle to me and have very few standards when it comes to punishing members. It's like a "scapegoat" method or something...take one of em out but leave the rest. Irks me tremendously.

And once I bought something on there that ended up being entirely pirated and bootleg...you could call it FAKE and I wrote their safe harbor or whatever and they said they could do nothing about it? Did I have to open up my package to find a spitting cobra to get some help from them???

They've forgotten the people that's got them where they are.
And now they are raising the final value fees.

I sell a bunch of stuff there. Basically use it as a clearing house for my business but I'm also looking for a more "friendly" site.

Harlem, your best bet to prevent being yanked is to make sure what you are selling is allowed on the site.

Just because others are getting away with it doesn't make it ok for you to do it, and then get mad because you go caught.

If it was something that was allowed on the site, I apologise.

Alot of my friends like to sell shit that isn't allowed because they see others doing it and cry foul when they get caught and banned.

As for being scammed, I've had that happen only once. I left the appropriate feedback and contacted safe harbor. Nothing was done via eBay, but as I only buy with PayPal I was protected, and got my money back.

The problem that I am having is that when I tried to reactivate my seller's account, the system was unable to authorize my Visa, saying that the billing address I was entering did not match with what was on file when they checked for validation.

I've called my bank four times. I was entering everything correctly, my account is in good standing, and I have way more than enough in my account to cover the $1 authorization charge.

Whats funny is that all five times I reentered my billing information, It was unable to authorize, but still took a dollar each time.

Jerks.

I've written some extremely polite, snide, bitchy e-mails.

Yes, my memory skills extend to ebay.

I've had the same seller suspended twice now under two different names for shill bidding. Customer service was going to blow it off the second time until I pointed out that an item the seller had up for auction was literally the same item I had a problem with a year ago with him. He was doing shill bidding then, and he was doing it again now. It happened to be a rare item, limited edition. Easy to prove it was the same item, even if he changed the description slightly a year later. Eventually customer service suspended him, but not quick enough. A couple people got taken by him for big bucks.

On ebay, it really is "buyer beware."

I do a lot of business over eBay and, yes, their customer service absolutely leaves everything to be desired. They drive me nuts. Now that they've raised fees (again), I'm really actively looking for somewhere else to go. Unfortunately, there's nowhere that has even a tenth of the traffic that eBay does. If all the disgruntled eBay sellers went to the same alternate auction site, there might be something worthwhile in moving. :( eBay knows they're in the stronger position.

I've gotten to the point where I write the eBay expenses off as an advertising expense. While I realize most people use eBay to get rid of stuff they're tired of having, rather than as part of their business, I find I get a very good portion of my traffic from eBay. So, whether I sell anything or not, at least I'm generating hits. that's useful in itself.

girl, who isn't sure she's really being very coherent and should probably go to bed.
:p

Ebay is sucky

They have overcharged me 50.00 for some 5.00 item. I have just written it off, because I just honestly don't want to deal with them. I also purchased a little disk and of course it came cracked, when I tried to complain to the person I bought it from they could have cared less.

I don't know what it is, but a lot of these big companies really really need some customer service training....I was on the phone with my phone company for 7 hours , who I use for my cell phone, home phone and DSL, and of course all three are constanly screwing up. I finally got some money taken off but god, who the hell wants to complain for 7 hours to 50 different people...

I haven't had a problem with ebay, but to hear that some have is disturbing. How many of you use PayPal?

I've never really had a big problem with PayPal. I've heard some horror stories, but they seem few and far between. My biggest issue with PayPal is that when you email them with an issue and someone responds, if you don't feel it's resolved and email again, someone else responds, basically telling you the exact thing that the first person told you. That's annoying. Otherwise, I've been using PayPal for almost 2 years and that's the worst problem I've had with them.

Me! No problem there at all.

Same here, and I've always had great CustServ. from them.

(eBay has ruined my damn night. I might go list my damn items on Yahoo. Grr)

I've used Paypal for a while and have had no problems at all. Though I'm not 100% sure about their security. A short while after registering a credit card with them, I ended up with some charges on the bill I did not make--internet charges at that. So I'm not totally sure if the two are connected, but it seems a likely possibility because I didn't use the credit card for much else.

well, PayPal is going public in a week or so. Might be a good investment.

I have had some small problems with sellers on ebay.... Things taken months to get to me. But that isnt Ebays problem. I have sold some things with out a hitch as well.
I use PayPal but never bothered to get verified so I can only spend a certain amount, or else I would have maxed all my cards long long ago.

Just another lil post from me
DirtyGrl

I will post alot for a few days then you wont hear from me for months and the cicle will begin again

i got fucked - and not in a nice way

by EBAY the very first time I used it. I bought something.. it wasn't at ALL what it was supposed to be... and cust service did zero to help. I was out-and-out defrauded. Never used it again, and never will.

I've used ebay more than 60 times... both buying and selling... and I've never had a reason to need to use their customer service department, so I can't really comment on that aspect. There are a few secrets to not getting scammed... first is the Golden Rule... always, ALWAYS check the seller's feedback before you bid and never, NEVER bid from someone who has more than 1 negative feedback listed. Next, check and make sure what you're selling is ok'd by ebay. Yes, there are lots of stuff that gets by them but when they do a scan of unacceptable items and you're name comes up, they don't take excuses. And last, get yourself registered and verified with Paypal and that will make all transactions much quicker. Good luck.
