Does an erotic writer know shit?

I write about what I know. As many others here have mentioned, if I don't know about it I research it. (Usually hands on. )

Yep, although I needed more padding than you would believe.

Padding? What's that?

I even use my own beard. I grow it longer through December and trim it early Jan.

Well without the padding I would be the shortest Santa on the South Beach Diet around. (I can get away with being short but skinny just doesn't cut it.)

Changed my AV to illustrate Henry VIII with padding but with undyed beard.

Change to a red cloak and I'm Santa.

And given the choice between portraying realistic sex versus idealized, I think we'd all opt for the idealized. That's what porn is, isn't it? Sexual propaganda? We write it not the way it is, but the way we'd like it to be. Or am I the only one here who can't fill a quart bottle with come from 20 feet away through my 14" penis? (Don't tell me if I am.)
Hello, Dr. Mabeuse.

I hope you don't mind if I respond to your comments with the perspective of a reader. Unfortunately, there is quite a disparity between the goal of the author (as you have expressed it here) and the type of erotica that I appreciate.

Men with exaggerated equipment.... women without flaws.... fantastic physical feats. Rarely will that type of story arouse me.

In order to be truly aroused by erotic fiction, I need to be able to imagine myself in the role of the female, and I need to recognize the guy in the tale as an actual human being. Realistic characters are the sine qua non for being able to lose myself in the story - which, in turn, is a prerequisite for my arousal.

And as for what happens once I am "in" the story, well.... to me, exquisite but plausible descriptions of passionate or poignant encounters are far more stimulating than spectacular erotic feats.

Just one reader's opinion.

Alice

P.S. regarding that bottle comment: self-deprecating humor is appreciated in any context. That made me smile!

 You're my kind of reader, Alice!
And- I thnk many of the writers that hangout here would say the same.

I sense a contradiction here: the guy is an actual human being AND has passionate or poignant encounters? ;)

I am not certain as to your gender, Purple Sage. So I don't know whether this was self-deprecating humor, or a humorous jab at the opposite sex.

Either way, it was funny!
