Condit: The Noose Tightens
John LeBoutillier
Tuesday July 10, 2001

It should be getting harder for Gary Condit to swallow this morning.
The Feds are clearly circling him – and getting ready to escalate the pressure.
1) The ‘Flight Attendant” – Anne Marie Smith - and her lawyer are jetting into Ronald Reagan National Airport today to sit down with the US Attorney. That means that this will ultimately be a Federal case.
It also means that the US Attorney may be eyeing an indictment for obstruction of justice. That indictment would enable authorities to really get a total look at Condit: phone records, bank records, search his car and any cars he may have borrowed and search his apartment.
Even though Abbe Lowell says that Condit will turn over anything the cops/Feds ask for, you can bet your bippy that he will fight hard not to turn over anything incriminating.
For example, we now learn that right up to last week Condit has been on the phone to Anne Marie urging/begging/threatening her not to cooperate with authorities. Does this sound like someone ready to "cooperate fully” with the investigation?
2) Her latest revelation that Condit is "into” deviant, auto erotic sex only makes him more likely to be involved in Chandra Levy’s disappearance.
3) Which brings us to the case of Joyce Chang. You may recall that in May, when Chandra’s disappearance first made the news, there were stories about Chang’s disappearance from the same neighborhood two years ago. Her brother led a candle light vigil for his late sister, whose body was found months after her disappearance floating in the Potomac River. No one has ever been arrested in this case.
This case was briefly mentioned on Meet The Press on Sunday. But, it turns, out Chang was also an intern. She worked for Congressman Howard Berman – also a Democrat from California.
Could it be that Condit knew Chang?
Could there be a serial killer in the House?
Are the Feds trying to link these two cases?
4) Despite the TV chatter about the so-called ineptitude of the DC cops on this case, there is now so much media attention that the investigating authorities are totally focused on this case.
5) And, if the Bush/Ashcroft Justice Department has its act in gear, they should smell blood in the water here. If the truth forces Condit to resign his seat, the GOP can win it in a special election. That district has a conservative bent and has been Condit’s only because of his long career there. But in a House with a tiny majority for the Republicans, every seat counts. Picking up that seat – in a state now completely dominated by the Democrats – would be a great coup for the Republicans.
6) The Chandra Levy Case also is a marvelous example of the power of the media – especially the three all-news cable networks. Led by the Fox News Channel, the cable nets have propelled this case into the hearts and minds of millions of Americans who otherwise would never have heard of Chandra or Condit. Even the three broadcast networks – slow to get going on this story – have lately joined the fray.
If this case is ever to be solved, it will be because the media forced it down the throats of a reluctant, lazy, diffident and indifferent law enforcement establishment in Washington.
Let us all pray for Chandra – and for the truth.

I thought there was nothing wrong with obstruction of justice when it's all about sex?

Well, that was my undersatnding too!

Ya'll wanna talk about poitics for awhile! Condit has become the Jeffords, the McCain, the weak link. Hell, dem damn 'publicans think they gonna come down in thier flying saucer, passin' out cigarrettes to yo' babies and pick the up a seat in California of all places! They mean, mean, meanies, all of 'em. Even my wife gets kinda rough with ol' corporal cueball now and again, if you know what I mean...

The police have indicated that he hasnt been frank...in fact, the first two times he lied about having an affair with Chandra. And he did not tell them as he is now telling them 2 months later, that she spent alot of time at his apt.
...
Finally, as for giving sympathy to family, obivously he hasnt , they are very angry at him...and are requesting he take a lie detector test...he told Chandra's mother the last time he talked to Chandra was on APril 25th, she disappeared APril 30th...but he told the police he last talked to her on APril 29th....
why lie to the family?

According to the DC Police Chief, in a live interview last Friday, "He has been most cooperative with the police. He is not a suspect."

When you are asked when the last time you saw someone, do you give the time you last spoke with them? I don't, and apparently neither does Condit. Her mother and the police asked different questions and got different answers.

and with the media coverage....I really dont think this lil forum would ever have any impact.

No, this forum probably won't compromise the chance of of an unbiased jury, but can you say the same for Fox News channel's obsesion with every detail of his relationship(s)?

Gosh, Thats funny, all you need is the gatter snaping in the background.

I don't know how to spell the sound of a garter snapping?

thwink? Thwack?

Need help from my fellow authors here.

Isn't it romantic...

You gotta admire the stones of a guy who has an affair with an airline attendent, wants to keep it quiet, and then SENDS HER AN AFFIDAVIT TO SIGN STATING THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS! I mean, didn't Condit have at least one lawyer from Earth? First of all, said affidavit is probably going to offend the fetching lady you've just dumped just a bit. Second, how will your wife and friends and family take it when you present them with a legal document saying, "Hey, nothin' goin' on with me and Anne Marie!" Don't you think that would raise a few quizzical eyebrows? And if called to testify, you think a judge and jury might be willing to overlook the affidavit if she gets on the stand and starts crying and says, "I signed it because I loved him so and I didn't want him to get in trouble, boo hoo hoo...but he was boning me regular."

Tell you what, if I was a government official in Washington right now, I wouldn't even be jacking off. You have the whole Clinton/Lewinsky thing, you have Bob Livingston quitting over an affair, Condit's gone, it's just a matter of time...the feeding frenzy is going strong, the sharks can smell the blood in the water. The harder the GOP tries to crucify Condit for his affair, you just know that there are Democrat-friendly reporters who would love nothing more than to break the news of some Republican brahmin tucked away in some cozy love nest in Georgetown with a 24-year-old girl with a 36C bust and a fetish for legislation.

Noted diplomat and alleged war criminal Henry Kissinger said that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac. You have all these alpha males (and females) clustered together, clawing and fighting each other every day, and all this cute young stuff around the office all day just staring at you with admiration. Is it any wonder that these guys fool around? Is infidelity enough to disqualify someone from government office? What if Condit was single? Would screwing an intern be hunky-dory then?

IN REFERENCE TO THE SUBJECT OF THE THREAD

I have a bad feeling that she may have been pregnant and the Congressman has something to do with her disappearance. Her aunt stated that she was looking forward to having a baby and marrying him. So go figure.

I agree................ Rep. Condit is a Teddie Kennady Wannabee Scumbag!

Coming from being a Retired Marine Corps MP............. Yeah, the profile that comes to mind is that Rep. Condit got scared shitless and had his problem disapeared...............

That being said, I feel that Condit realized in a panic situation that she had to disapear. And in as much, if Chandra were to disapear, all of his problems would be null n void. Kinda makes ya remember Ms. Kopeckny and a lil ole place known as the Chappaquidick bridge, where a now fatassed, boozer called Teddy paced the road for hours............. watched her die by drowning, just to save his pathetic political career.

Condit, according to the news, via his attorneys today, has offered to forego a polygraph test...............(I wonder if they'll adjust the flow of electricity to let him know when he is being caught in a lie................ahhhhhhhhh, just a thought)............. the police, according to the media as of 4:00 PM EST (Atlanta, GA time) have decided to take the scumbag representative up on his offer.

If found to be a liar and murderer.............. I say an Eye for an Eye, a Tooth for a Tooth............. Can you think of any better reason for the death penalty? On that note............. I am 37 and I have a 19 year old daughter, not that much younger than the average Washington-DC intern........... Would you want a killer to get away without paying the supreme price if she was your daughter????

I pray everyday..................... That NOTHING EVER HAPPENS TO ONE OF MY CHILDREN...................... Especially like this.

To sum it all up..................... If he is found guilty by a jury of his peers------- he should pay the same price as his victim. Otherwise, let the rule of law work it's majik.....................

 I think she is pregnant and confronts him he rejected her and she commited suscide like jumped off a bridge over the potomac or something like that.

I'm curious as to why they want Condit to give a DNA sample. Her body hasn't been found, there's no evidence of violence in her apartment, so I fail to see why the cops would want a DNA sample or why Condit would be willing to give one.

And a polygraph, I dunno. Condit probably wants to answer all the questions now so people will stop asking them. If he takes the test, and passes it, then what?

Still they say he is NOT a suspect. So, as christo asks, why are they now calling for a DNA sample and a polygraph test?

I believe he has not been forthcoming at all and I find that disturbing. Someone suggested earlier that he hasn't broken any laws and all he did was lie to the police. Well, in my book that is breaking the law! I agree with Siren that this is clearly a case of obstruction of justice. Deliberately misleading investigators (uh...we call that lying) qualifies! So does withholding pertinent information that may be relevant to the case (we call that lying by omission)

However, it seems to me, at this point, to be a repeat of the Atlanta Olympics bombing suspect fiasco. If you recall the outcome of that case, Richard Jewell was found innocent. Yet not before his life was turned upside down. His movements were monitored around the clock. He lost his privacy, his safety was threatened and his lifestyle was severely compromised. The entire nation turned against him. I'm sure people still look sideways at him and wonder...

I think the media coverage and tenacity only exacerbates a situation like this. My gut tells me that Condit is hiding something. I have already stated that I think Chandra was pregnant and he didn't take the news well. But I wasn't there and I should really reserve judgment until there is hard evidence.

I just don't think that he has the balls to kill her himself. Look at his behavor so far, is he hiding something? Hell, I think that he's hiding a lot, but the man is a coward. Kill someone himself? Nah, but he prolly knows alot more than he is saying right now.

Another problem is that the DC Police dept is totally dependent on congress for funding and has a history of treading very lightly around members. For instence, during the Barney Frank scandle, they delayed thier investigation of Franks live in boy friend for 6 weeks untill they were absublutly certin that he was running a gay escort service out of Frank's appartmant.

Finally, I really hate to see Public service sullied in this way. Several posters on this thread and at least two national comentators have implied that "What do you expect? Condit is a politician, and we KNOW what they are like...."

Know This: the vast majority of our elected public servents on both sides of the asile are NOT like Condit. They are honorable men and women who work very had for thier districts and country. I hate to think of Tom Dashel or Trent Lott (who are both honorable descent hardworking men, regardless of how wrong they are) being tarred with the same brush that Condit so richly deserves. Doing the nations bussiness is hard enough, without the extra burdon that scandels like this create.

Dashel and Lott honorable men??????? Yeah right! Those two and there demo lott took over 85k out of my pockect last year, just because they want to play class warfare. That amount was just over 49 percent of my gross for the year as a self employed person. AND thaT WAS JUST MY FEDERAL DUES............What a CROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!............. I made about 200k last year working 7 days a week, 6AM till 11PM, 8 freakin days a week..................

They, as in Daschel and the Lott took almost 65% of that from me because they could (I guess there budget needed more fat)...... While I got to show my family less than if I was working for a corporation making 80k a year. Is that fair?????????? HELL NO!!!

Trent Lott and Tom "Puff Daddy" Daschell can------- KISS MY ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------- FOREVER AND A DAY!!!!!!!!!

Siren grow up. All life is politics. This is politics. Yes there is a tragedy, but it is a sideshow. That girl means no more or less than the one who dissappered several months prior. This would not even be a story if it were not for politics.

Just pick up your local paper and debate any meaningless death or investigation and you will soon see the point.

In Kansas City, they have the headless corpse of an 8 year old that seems to belong to nobody, no family has come forward, etc.

Now tell me again why Chandra Levy's dissapearance warrants several threads.

Condit's Career Will End Soon
John LeBoutillier
Wednesday July 11, 2001
Prediction: Congressman Gary Condit will never take a lie detector test administered by either the DC cops or by the FBI. Never.
Press reports that he and his too-chatty lawyer, Abbe Lowell, have agreed to take a polygraph test are just plain wrong. Those media outlets are all guilty of an all-too-familiar fault in today’s American society: they do not listen carefully.
Lowell said, on Monday afternoon, "if a good offer is made to me I will discuss it with my client.”
He never said he or Condit would agree to it.
Here is why:
While polygraphs are not allowed as evidence in a courtroom, they are - when administered properly - very accurate. Can you imagine what would happen to Condit if he took the test, showed a "high level of deception” and those results were then leaked to the media?
The firestorm would envelop him and he would be forced to resign from the House immediately.
Lowell’s job is twofold: 1) to keep Condit out of jail and 2) to keep his political career alive.
Beginning today we will read language about Lowell and the authorities "talking about the parameters” of a possible polygraph examination. In fact, this is a stall tactic by Lowell while he probably has Condit privately take a polygraph administered by someone Lowell selects and swears to secrecy.
Robert Shapiro did this to OJ the day after OJ came back from Chicago. OJ did so badly that Shapiro stopped the test midway, destroyed the test sheets and tapes and swore the tester to lifetime secrecy.
From that day forward Shapiro rebuffed the cops whenever they offered a polygraph.
In this Condit matter, Lowell is not going to expose his client to the ruination certain to come from failing an FBI-administered polygraph – unless Condit sails through the private test with no problems.
Condit’s secretive behavior over the past two months indicates he has much to hide. He will fail any polygraph – unless, as one DC lawyer told NewsMax yesterday, he "is a stone-cold sociopath. Those guys can beat any machine.”
Assuming, though, that the private Lowell-supervised test goes badly, we will soon see Lowell explaining why he will not agree to a polygraph for his client. He will have to come up with words and excuses not to agree to a test – after everyone believes he and Condit have already agreed to one.
Oh boy, are things going to get testy then!
The media will go nuts when they realize that Condit won’t take the test – and they’ll read it as Condit ‘backing off’ his pledge of openness and cooperation.
The Levy family will then come forward and accuse Condit of being involved in Chandra’s disappearance.
Condit’s only saving grace is that the authorities never find Chandra’s body – and thus never find any evidence linking him to a crime.
However, please keep in mind, there have been cases where people have been convicted of murder with no murder victim’s body ever being found!
We are a long, long way from that happening here.
But we are very close - days or a couple of weeks – to the end of Condit’s political career.
The minute he dodges the polygraph – or if he should take it and fail – he is toast politically.
Even the Democrats – who stick up for any type of liar, philanderer and abuser as long as he votes Democrat – will then abandon Condit.
Get ready: the next few days will reveal much we have suspected.

Slow down Big Fella, in case you didn't notice Lott and Dashel lead diferent parties, and can usally be counted on to be at each others throut. Yes they are honorable men that worked every bit as long and hard as you did, had every body looking over thier shoulder second guessing their every move, and got paid less then you did. In terms of their honor, no one that I'm aware of has ever sugested that either of these men, or for that matter most of the other members of congress, are cheating on their wives lieing to the ,ediaor thecourts, or lining the pockets at public expence. If you disagree swith them, work to defeat their reelection, but dn't personally attack them unless you know something, that thier lives spent under the microscope of the press has failed to bring out.

If you are that upset about the tax structure, get involved with which ever party you want to and fix it. From the the little bit that you posted here about your income and taxes, you might want to look at a new CPA firm, becuse you are right, it looks like you paid too much.

My spouse and I have done everything possible. Just once you hit a certain income level, you loose a lot of your gravy. There is no way around other than to grin, bear it, and keep on earning for your children and grandchildren.

This had to have been a member and not a troll, so I am responding. It did sound more reasoned than I generally do!

i think that mrs congressman condit killed chandra...i read that she hardly ever visits washington, and oops, she just happened to be in town the weekend of the disappearence....co-incidence, i think not

I dont wanna grow up.....

:p

lol!

added this to let you know I am not being sarcastic. That hit me just right. Still grinning!

This was mine, I didn't look to see that it had loged me out for some reason. Jeeze, it happened twice in the same thread. Thanks for responding anyway, A_J. I will get this thing figgered out this year.

my mantra,
I am not to respond to unregistered.

my worldview
I am not to respond to unregistered

my advice to my fellow Literoticans
I am not to respond to unregistered

what do I do?
I respond to unregistered.

But it is Sparky's fault!

And I hold him blameless, 'cause

PT Barnum and J. Carville (JC - James Carville, Hezus Christ, etc.) claim me as thier constituency!
