Do you think AI experimenters are among us?

To be slightly more serious. I see posts here all the time that look like Google AI summaries.
Summaries of what? Could you give us links to a couple? I'm trying to get educated about identifying bots or AI generated content.

When I first started writing 2 months ago, I was relying on AI feedback because most people just don't bother. I don't anymore but wonder how many other writers do it because people generally suck at caring enough...or they get AI feedback just out of curiosity.
Can you give it a whole story? I only use the original ChatGPT (for stuff like finding out if a TV series takes one episode or a season for a story - it lies 20% of the time). I don't think it would accept a whole story.

Uhm... isn't that exactly what a bot would say...?

But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

How did you identify them as AI? In the two or three instances I encountered (I think one or two were DMs) it was suspicious congeniality.

That was what got my attention. Another was the forum status ("Title") common to them, "Divorced". Drilling down into their profiles, there were several other similarities, but were not cut-and-paste.

How is this different than the bots that have been on social media forever?

Just a new way of doing the same thing. I know what you're talking about since I have been a forum admin since the '80s. (Yes, that's pre-internet. Dialup online stuff.) What was being created here was... creative... but in a chin-scratching way.

Seems like people are just trying to append "AI" to an old problem to make it extra scary.

What made you suspect the DM?

besides a being a person ive never even seen in the AH forum let along spoken to in any way, I looked at their activity in other forums and theyre commenting randomly on Twenty year old threads. And others were commenting the activity was suspicious at best.

plus, they asked me where I'm from, and didn’t miss a beat when I replied "Andromeda."

One hell of a commute. :ROFLMAO:

The title brought me pandemic flashbacks and all I heard is your voice saying "Crewmen, there's an AI among us" with that jingle.

Bots are no strangers online though. AI just increased the number of them, and they no longer blatantly spam ads in other languages. I guess this should be a sign to take this as a little game of spotting the bot.

Not a bot myself though. I do enjoy breathing oxygen.

Pretty soon regular people will be called out in restrooms by security: people who might have short paragraphs will be accused of being manbots or perhaps men who type in a fancy font will get hit on by men looking for a hot slutbot .

Interesting thread going here....just yesterday I received a DM from a new soul that has zero postings on Lit. At the time I was casually sus that something wasn't quite right.
And now after reading of others experiences pretty sure I just had a convo with AI.

I’ve had a few recently. No posts, random username. Nothing to suggest humanity.

Well, I'm in trouble now, because my handwriting is in cursive, which means I'm pretty much using a fancy font.

On the other hand, now I know people who write in Courier are creeps.

The only reason I sleep at night is telling myself that some of the posts in the Political Forum are AI. Because if they were real people I wouldn’t dare leaving my house.

Yeah, it's frightening how many ostensibly real people will celebrate the cold blooded murder of a man in front of his children for the crime of disagreeing with them.

The bots extend into real life too. I’ve been away on a trip and started to join a ‘free WiFi’ ( I know, I’m stupid) Anyhow, just had a text asking me how my trip to ‘sky’ was . Haven’t been to Skye but it had to be that WiFi… or a stupid rellie I don’t have in my contacts
