JD Vance Has Supported Criminalizing People Seeking Abortions

Ohio Sen. JD Vance has previously argued against abortion ban exceptions for rape and incest, supported the use of the Comstock Act to criminalize sending abortion medications in the mail, and called for a national abortion ban. “I certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally,” Vance said on a podcast in 2022 when running for the Senate.

Add to that his recent support for the use of patients’ medical records by the police to investigate people who travel out of state for abortions. In a letter sent in June 2023 to the head of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Vance and 29 other Republican lawmakers urged HHS to reverse course on its recently finalized rule that protected patients’ reproductive healthcare information from law enforcement, particularly when patients travel to access lawful abortion care.

If someone genuinely believes that abortion is murder, it would be strange to support murder of an innocent person just because a rape happened. Incest might be a bit more of a gray area, since one could argue a mercy killing because of severe birth defects or such.

I know! Seriously, I F’in KNOW, that I should simply ignore this and just keep moving on happily about my business but I’ve read and re-read this at least 10x.

So why didn't the Democrats codify Roe v Wade? The party of Wall Street, NAFTA and the endless wars of the military industrial complex are not to be trusted anymore than the party of Trump and the evangelical conservative crazies.

For fuck's sake!

Whatever happened to the old Republican sentiment of "Abortion is a private business between the woman and her doctor"?

It is actually possible for a person to be anti-abortion morally yet pro-choice legally. Such a person is like "I hate abortion and would never have one myself, but the legal choice is up to each individual". The anti-choice people are the ones who force their morality on people who disagree with their abortion stance.

Jesus.
  • You need 35,000 signatures to get an amendment vote on the South Dakota ballot.
  • The Pro-choice group supplied 54,000 signatures.
  • The Forced-birth said that certain paperwork for certain signatures were not submitted! FRAUD!
  • The district court told the Forced-birth folks that wasn't enough to overturn the initiative.
  • The Forced-birth-friendly South Dakota Supreme Court waits 8 days before the ballot MUST be finalized by law to say...hey take another look at this, district court!

The fucking fix is in!

Well well well, the Utah Supreme Court got caught in a second amendment knot today and was forced to uphold a state court's injunction preventing enforcement of an absolute ban on abortion.

Backstory
The United States Supreme Court, in the Bruen decision this year, create a brand spanking new legal basis for law: "History and Tradition", which meant that laws could be upheld based on standards that existed in the 1800s. In it's purest form, this would have meant any gun developed after 1870 or so would NOT be covered by the second amendment! Only muskets and smoothbore long guns for you gun nuts!

So Chief Justice Roberts prevented MAGA rioting in teh streets with the disclaimer 'extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not [yet] in existence."

Present Day
This disclaimer came back to bite Utah Christian Nationalists (Mormon Division) on the ass. They passed a law and argued that "history and tradition" prevented Utah women from getting ANY abortions, because it's always been that way since the 1800s.

The Justices were forced to rule that the "history and tradition" exception applied here, because the history and tradition at the time prevented women from voting on this and also that medical procedures had advanced tremendously in the 20th century so that abortion is far safer than it was in 1890 (and accomplished with a pill most of the time). If they hadn't upheld the exception, that would run contrary to the Bruer decision.

So, for now anyway, abortion remains safe and legal in the state of Utah up to 18 weeks, which it has been for 50+ years.

Utah ultraconservatives have vowed to create yet another abortion ban law, because Jesus.

Somewhat ironically, Utah has the lowest abortion rate in the United States to begin with

A temporary victory, but a victory nonetheless.

Uh-oh! Dog Whistle alert!

Christian Nationalist! (You left off the White part…for shame!) and Ultraconservatives! Ooooooh…boogeymen come to get ya!

Just who are these Christian Nationalist? Who is their leader? To your point though…it’s a fair trade no? Guns are kept by law abiding citizens who are given that right by the constitution and you get to continue to kill babies on authority of the court. Fair is fair.

Abortion doesn't involve babies. Killing babies is against the law.l in every state.

Dog whistle? I flat out said "Christian Nationalist", what's your issue there? (The "White" is obviously implied, have you ever seen a person of color at a Christian Nationalist event?)

The leaders of this cult for the most part like to keep a low profile, in order to ensure a steady stream of women of the proper age Biblically to be deflowered.

The most prominent public leaders of this cult are House speaker Mike Johnson and the president of the "Family Resource Center" hatemongers, Tony Perkins. Mike Pence is also hovering nearby on the fringe of this movement, awaiting the call as well.

Your ludicrous "guns vs. abortion" is a classic "false equivalency" logical fallacy. You can do better. Not much better, admittedly, but keep trying.
