Texas attorney general petitions state supreme court after woman who sued the state was granted permission for an abortion

https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/08/us/texas-abortion-ruling-attorney-general-petition/index.html

It's official.

Republicans in Texas - and many other places - believe that women should carry dying and nonviable fetuses until they themselves die or about to die.

Conservatives: Justify this. Justify how this is appropriate. You voted for this. You wanted this. Tell us how this is not only okay but good.

The Control Caucus strikes again…

JFC

SAD!!!

🤬

I mean it. Conservatives need to justify this. They need to explain how this is okay.

They voted for this. They will vote for this again. They want this.

They need to step up and speak to this.

They won’t.

They were NEVER about freedom.

They were ALWAYS about control.

It was ALL gaslighting.

You see it here daily.

🤬

I challenge every conservative, especially those who are anti-abortion and anti-choice, to justify this.

This is what they are unleashing upon the country.

They need to answer for it.

Totally agree, but won’t hold my breath….

Paxton also sent a letter to three hospitals, threatening legal action if they allowed the abortion to be performed at their facility.

In the petition, Paxton asked the Texas Supreme Court to rule quickly, saying that “each hour [the temporary restraining order] remains in place is an hour that Plaintiffs believe themselves free to perform and procure an elective abortion.”

Trisomy 18. As elective. The fucking gall.

Conservatives, this is what you want?

Texas attorney general says he will sue doctor who gives abortion to Kate Cox

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/dec/08/ken-paxton-texas-abortion-kate-cox

The Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton, has threatened to prosecute any doctor who provides an abortion to Kate Cox, a woman with a non-viable pregnancy, advising hospitals to ignore a court order issued on Thursday allowing her to get the procedure.

Conservatives, you support the politicians who are doing this and who think like this.

Explain how you believe this is good policy.

Pregnant woman sues Kentucky for right to have abortion

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/dec/08/kentucky-woman-abortion-ban-lawsuit

The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, is about eight weeks pregnant and she wants to have an abortion in Kentucky but cannot legally do so because of the state’s ban, the suit said. She is seeking class-action status to include other Kentuckians who are or will become pregnant and want to have an abortion.

This is my decision – not the government’s or any other person’s,” the plaintiff said in a news release on Friday issued by the American Civil Liberties Union, one of the groups backing her challenge. “I am bringing this lawsuit because I firmly believe that everyone should have the ability to make their own decisions about their pregnancies.”

Suing. For healthcare. Government involvement directly into a citizen's private affairs.

Conservatives, justify this. You wanted this. You voted for this.

Texas supreme court blocked the lower court order.

Again, conservatives you support this.

This is barbaric.

Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocks pregnant woman from emergency abortion

https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/08/us/texas-abortion-ruling-attorney-general-petition

The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a pregnant woman from obtaining an emergency abortion in a ruling issued late Friday.

The court froze a lower court’s ruling that would have allowed Kate Cox, who sued the state seeking a court-ordered abortion, to obtain the procedure. “Without regard to the merits, the Court administratively stays the district court’s December 7, 2023 order,” the order states.

The court noted the case would remain pending before them but did not include any timeline on when a full ruling might be issued. Cox is 20 weeks pregnant. Her unborn baby was diagnosed with a fatal genetic condition and she says complications in her pregnancy are putting her health at risk.

Explain yourselves.

This is the time for the people who insist that women who have non-viable and life-threatening pregnancies can still have access to abortion need to step up and explain this.

Following the ruling, Cox’s attorney said they remain hopeful the state’s request is quickly rejected. “We are talking about urgent medical care. Kate is already 20 weeks pregnant,” said Molly Duane, an attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights. “This is why people should not need to beg for healthcare in a court of law.”

Cox, 31, has been to three different emergency rooms in the last month due to severe cramping and unidentifiable fluid leaks, according to her suit. She has had two prior caesarean surgeries – C-sections – and, the suit said, “continuing the pregnancy puts her at high risk for severe complications threatening her life and future fertility, including uterine rupture and hysterectomy.”

So you'd think by now a single conservative could have come on to this thread and justified this massive government intrusion into the lives of this woman and her family. Why is the government involved in her healthcare? Why is the government between her and her doctors?

What justifies this level of extremism?

C'mon conservatives, don't be shy. Justify this. Tell us why this is okay.

They’re cowardly incels that are happy women are being controlled by their elected surrogate(s). Right now they’re snickering in the shadows like little boys that got away with some mischievous act that hurt a little girl.

The only good thing is that most of them are old. They’ll be dead soon. - Most from a self inflicted gunshot wound from one of their ridiculously overpowered guns from their ridiculously large collections.

Five things to know about the Texas abortion fight

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/4351771-five-things-to-know-texas-abortion-fight/

  1. One woman at the center of it all
    • She had just learned that her 20-week-old fetus was diagnosed with full trisomy 18, a fatal condition for the fetus that could also lead to severe pain and an increased risk of pregnancy and birth complications. Her doctors argued that carrying the fetus to term and giving birth via Caesarion section could be dangerous, possibly resulting in her losing the ability to have children in the future.
  2. Ken Paxton leads the state’s fight
    • The state argued that she didn’t fall under that exemption and that any potential complications were not truly life-threatening. Jonathan Stone, a lawyer for the Texas Office of the Attorney General, said Cox did not “meet all the elements” to qualify for an exemption, and that the state would need to change the medical exemption and then say “that the plaintiffs meet this changed newly rewritten standard.”
  3. Texas Supreme Court draws case into question
    • Following the state’s challenge, the Texas Supreme Court paused Gamble’s ruling on Friday, meaning Cox can not longer legally receive abortion care until a final decision is made over the legality of granting an exception.
  4. Abortion in the spotlight politically
    • The Texas fight draws another wave of national attention to the issue of abortion rights, considered key by Democratic strategists in efforts to regain the House and keep the White House in 2024. Abortion rights issues have mobilized voters to the polls in recent years, including victories for abortion-rights activists in red states like Kansas and Kentucky in 2022 and Ohio this year.
  5. Could have big 2024 implications for Texas
    • Those 2024 impacts could also filter down to Texas, which hosts an important Senate race and may be in play for Democrats after years of thinning GOP presidential election margins.

Not counting on #5 cuz ya know, people need to show up to vote.

In another similarly developed country, the political pushback against this insanity would catapult the opposition into power. But aslong as the judicial system allows the executive branch to make lifetime appointments of political hacks to the supreme court there is no guarantee the rule of law will reflect on popular opinion or for that matter what the law actually says.

Have you ever seen conservatives justify anything honestly? You are asking for something that doesn't exist. And you won't change any conservatives mind either, no matter how much I respect your dedication. There is no conservative party anymore. GOP is dead. There is only MAGA, and those that vote for the MAGA party because they can't bring themselves to vote democrat. There is no law and order GOP. That party sold their sold soul long before storming the Capital and excusing Trump's crimes. There is no party of "freedom", they want to elect an authoritarian, that wants to end democracy, freedom of press, that gerrymander away the value of a single citizens vote. Dictatorship is the antethesis of limited government. The only GOP values that still are true for MAGA party is the hate of non-whites, the disdain for women's rights and the lack of fair taxation of the wealthy. You think people so morally corrupt would justify anything sincerely?

I don't disagree. With any of that really.

In the court of public opinion, a hearing must be had. Their silence doesn't speak well for them.

You'd think by now, after multiple days, some ardent "pro-life" individual would have been able to explain why they voted for this type of scenario.

The woman has been to the ER four times in less than a month, but the "pro-life" people haven't said jack squat in defending what they voted for. Ken Paxton doesn't think she's demonstrated enough of a risk. Apparently she needs to die first.

C'mon conservatives, you wanted this. This is exactly what you voted for.

They think you got enough rights when the 19th was passed. Gotta real those women back in.

Heh.

Thing is, do you remember how many of them said that women in medical emergency situations can get abortions when needed? Yeah, that turned out real well didn't it.

Again, where are all these "pro-life" conservatives defending making this woman go to court repeatedly when she's already been to the ER four times in the last month?

Well it’s not an emergency unless the man has to miss a football game because of it.

Those folks in Texas sure did show how they hold football in higher esteem….
