Do you own your body?

A pregnant woman in Louisiana says she’s being forced to choose between carrying a fetus that lacks a skull and the top of its head (as a result of a rare condition called acrania) to term, or traveling several states over for a legal abortion, since Louisiana has banned abortion with very narrow exceptions.
her first scan was around 11 weeks, she's now 13 weeks, and florida cuts off any chance for her to have the fetus aborted at the 15 week mark.

what a fucking disgrace. this fetus has ZERO chances of living. she is having to choose between carrying it to bury it, or travel 2 states over, in a short space of time, to get the abortion.

women shouldn't be forced to do this. Medical intervention SHOULD be right where they live.

Has five children. On birth control. Health issues with past pregnancies. Abortion not an option for her in Missouri. Then those fine Christian folks in those taxpayer funded religious sham clinics lied to and stalked her. All while only offering platitudes with no solutions and no assistance.

I wondered what would happen if these people gave my phone number to the police. Could I get arrested for having an abortion out of state? I couldn't be taken away from my children — they need me.

I was terrified. I didn't know what was normal and what was not in an abortion. I'd never done it before, and the reason I was on birth control is that I didn't want to have to do this.

I wanted to get checked, but I didn't dare go to an emergency room in Missouri. What if I got arrested? I felt sick at the thought of being treated like a criminal for making a choice about my body for the sake of my family.

I just did not want to take that risk, and it broke my heart, knowing that seeking medical care was now a risk.

Seeking medical care is now a crime. Depending where you live.

sad to say, this is so typical of republican thinking: 100% for something until it directly affects you, then it's all 'i don't understand how this could happen, it's so wrong!' We see it time and time and time again, especially through the Covid pandemic and now with abortion bans, though this particular woman did oppose the abortion ban because of her own experiences.

“I was just your quintessential pro-life Texan.” Kailee, 29
“I was raised in central Texas by extremely Republican parents and grandparents,” Cade, 31, said. “One hundred percent pro-life.”

After 3 miscarriages and medical issues during them in the early years of their marriage, she realised pregnancy 'can be dangerous'. Then, after learning she was again pregnant, they delightedly put the news out there, only to later find out her fetus was severely damaged:
had heart, lung, brain, kidney and genetic defects and would either be stillborn or die within minutes of birth. Carrying him to term put Kailee at high risk for severe pregnancy complications, including blood clots, preeclampsia and cancer.

Because of the new restrictions, she had to flee Texas and go to New Mexico in order to get a potentially life-saving abortion.
“I’ve never felt more betrayed by a place I was once so proud to be from,” Kailee said through tears.

“How could you be so cruel as to pass a law that you know will hurt women and that you know will cause babies to be born in pain?” she added. “How is that humane? How is that saving anybody?”
it's simple, Kailee: so many people cannot see past their own personal experiences, lacking any genuine empathy for a situation they've not had to deal with and little desire to even think about it. Basically, a whole lot of people are inherently selfish and it takes that personal impact on their lives for them to understand what others grasp right from the get go.

Can I just say...I love that the left finds threads.relevant to the topics they post while the right just creates a brand new one for every single in the moment grievance? Seems like a commentary on political styles

Wingnut nation tacitly acknowledges that they cannot have an open and honest debate on substance of issues, therefore they opt to "drown out opposition" with the sheer quantity of their shitposting.

south carolina senate fails to pass near total abortion ban after gop lawmaker filibuster...

gop State senator Tom Davis 'stopped it in its tracks', forcing it on to a vote there wasn't enough support for; he had the support of all 3 female gop Senate members and enough males to make the refusal to adopt a bipartisan one.

“If you want to believe that God is wanting you to push a bill through with no exception that kills mothers and ruins the lives of children, let’s mothers bring home babies to bury them, then I think you’re miscommunicating with God or maybe you’re just not communicating with him at all,” Republican Sen. Katrina Shealy said Wednesday in a fiery speech on the Senate floor directed toward her male colleagues.

“I know we disagree on a lot of issues, but hearing you talk about menstrual cycles, conception, how you know when your egg is fertilized or having a baby, I got to tell you it really disgusts me.”

Shealy added: “Yes, I’m pro-life. I’m also pro-life with the mother, the life she has with her children who are already born. I care about the children who are forced into adulthood that was made up by a legislature full of men so they can make take a victory lap and feel good about it. You want children raising children who will most likely suffer domestic violence and live in poverty. But you don’t care because you’ve done your job and you will forget about them once they are born.”

What's that got to do with anything??

It's either your body your choice, or it's not... bodily autonomy, but only when YOU approve, isn't bodily autonomy.

Talk about no-consistency.
you had a choice to get vaccinated or not, even if that choice meant hardship...actually, i'm editing that word to "inconvenience". The government DID NOT physically force a single person to put something into their bodies...even if many may have welcomed that health imperative for the good of the wider population. By NOT getting vaccinated or wearing masks or observing social distancing, those people REMOVED the rights of others to have their bodies protected from the plague-bearers and people DIED because of it.

pregnancy risks no-one else's life or health except the mother and fetus; giving birth where finances aren't available to properly care for other children or the new one CAN risk health and lives of pluralities.

A lot of people didn't have a choice either effectively or directly. If it risks no-one else's life or not isn't relevant to the point I was making or the topic of the thread "Do you own your own body?? ".

My point being forcing and even coercion of vaccination or for example the forcible taking of tissues as evidence if suspected of a crime, things I support in most cases, is still anti-choice and anti-bodily autonomy.

So if you're like me and support abortion, but not other kinds of bodily autonomy, you're just pro-abortion, you're not pro-choice or pro-bodily autonomy.

Unless abortion is contagious, your argument is incorrect and bullshit.

Yes, you do. What a stupid question.

No, you don’t own the unborn baby inside you.

But you are legally responsible for it, so don’t kill it.

Sincerely
The Supreme Court
If an iso posts in a forum and no one is there to listen.....

No, it's not. Because bodily autonomy doesn't have shit to do with contagious or not.

You're just not honest enough to say "fuck your choice, you'll do with your body what we say when we like it..... but I'm pro abortion." is it just too much honesty?? Would hurt you yea?

Not at all shocking you lack the intellectual capacity to differentiate between bodily autonomy and being pro-abortion.

Let me guess, you claim to be pro-free speech but are also pro-censoring a bunch of speech you don't like because " that kind of speech isn't free speech!!! am I close?? LOL
