one of my favorites is about 10 years old. A small green hand print on a paper plate. With the name Benjamin scribbled on the back
another one.. a small hand drawn tree with apples made with the finger prints of my youngest daughter, Kimber. with a poem that says "These are special apples, Hanging on this tree. I made them with my finger prints. They are part of me!"
oh and.. a sea shell plaque made from the stuff collected by all four kids on a trip to the beach.
Then there is the writing on the upstairs wall. Crayons, permanant marker and paint. I hate to destroy that one.. but someday it will need to be painted over.
most of my stuff is in storage right now but
I have a John Pitre lithograph called
Focus on Light
I have a Wyland Litho called In the Company of Dolphins
and a smaller Litho of Haunama Bay
I have a Misha, a Nagel a couple of Muki, numerous anime cels
and a couple of Olivia lithos and one giclee
I really want John Pitre's Night Street but I haven't felt up to purchasing yet...
Heaps of it hanging around the place, the bulk of it my own work. I collect those of a NZ artist who does water colours that have humour to the painting.
The belt buckle I've worn for over thirty years, has a 1.5 x 1 inch porcelain oval painting in it. The painting is a miniature landscape done by my mother.
My sister has a 48"x36" oil painting my mother did in high school of a Moose feeding by a moonlit lake.
I think my brothers all have at least one of Mom's paintings, too.
Both of my daughters and the oldest granddaughter have porcelain dolls that were poured, painted, fired, assembled and dressed by my mother.
Actually when youget right down to it, I've got something better than art -- I've got an ARTIST!
yes, we have our "real art" in the living room--original stuff, mostly small, all inexpensive, some might be more "craft" than art, but "original" things we like.
I own 5 oil paintings from a famous local painter and
a wooden fantasy animal sculpture.
Recently I bought an Eileen Gray table and Wagenfeld lamp,
both have a cult status here in Germany.
A house just feels more like a home to me if it's filled with original art. Doesn't have to be expensive, just something thought provoking or of sentimental value. I don't care for prints or posters; I prefer to keep my walls and counters bare until I can fill them with one-of-a-kinds.
Mr. Mischka's mom is a painter, and our walls are filled with several of her pieces. Modern style, bold colors. I recently got them all framed, and I'm very happy with the result. They feature prominently into our decorating scheme.
Last year we went to a showing of local artists, and I fell in love with a sculpture of a horse (shocking, I know). For my birthday, my husband comissioned the artist to make one for me, and it is now the centerpiece on the mantle, with a single spotlight shining upon it.
I also have a mirror my mother made, framed in a tile mosaic that she made by hand in a clay working class. It has a simple pine frame, which really sets off the burst of color the tiles provide.
Mr. Mischka and I have also made a few pieces ourselves. Nothing that's going to get us displayed at the Met, but they bring a smile to my face when I see them.
the university here once had an annual "craft fair" put on the college of art (they may still, but i haven't made it for several years...i was particularly attracted to the pottery of one of the professors and now own numerous pieces...they are lovely and simple in design, and the colors are wonderful...he has the touch for making delicate pottery...it rings when you tap it, almost like fine crystal
i also bought a glass vase (sculpture really) by one of the grad students...it's hand blown with a variety of colors somehow wrapped within...very beautiful
i also have a tiny carved ivory statue that a great aunt brought back from japan many years ago...the details are exquisite but i don't know much about its origins
they're not originals but i also own several numbered prints by an illinois artist named billy jackson...they're watercolors of rural life in our area and are breathtaking...he makes me realize that our flatland really is quite pretty
i don't know...i'll look around...i have bits and pieces that i've picked up in various places
I have a couple of reproductions of Remington bronzes, an original collage made by a niece who attended RISD. I have several of her drawings as well. I have an apple painted by my son, and lots of drawing done by my daughter. He specialty is horses. She is 6 so they are abstract horses, but lovely none the less.
I have an orginal Ansel Adams which I adore. I have many waterclors that I have done some framed most are not. I have a collection of art glass done by several artists that I adore. One is called "water" and is the most beautiful. I love almost any art work but I must admit I am not a fan of most pottery.
Lots. With the exception of one Cézanne print, it's all original. Drawings, brush and ink, painting, photography, glass, ceramics some small bronze and I don't know what all. It's all over the damned place! I come from an arts background, a lot of my friends are artists, so they were gifts, purchases or trades. Sometimes I'll get a piece by someone I don't know, but I can't afford to buy as much of my friends stuff as I would like to as it is!
well, they're not MY weavings, in that i didn't do them myself, but they were gifts from an artist friend in college who made them on the huge looms in her weaving lab
one is a traditional coverlet, very dense, made of wool in pewter and navy with a design that reminds me of new england for some reason...another is a very loose weave of soft wool that she called her spider web (and when hung properly it does resemble one)...i have it in my bedroom, draped up in one corner by clear push pins with one offset light along the baseboard that sends its shadows across the room
I only have two oils my dad did, some decoys he carved (they count because they are carved sculpture), a pastel that my great aunt did, and is just kind of off. It was never framed because it doesn't fit in anywhere. Then all I have is an Acrylic by an artist from the 70's named Brent, and my own work that I've kept, which isn't much.
I really love art, I just can't afford to buy art. I have a favorite fantasy artist and I will share her website here, so you all can see her amazing skill.....
I have several Victorian oil paintings by "collectible" artists that I acquired because they appealed to my soul. There is something unique in each of them that is indescribable in its beauty. Plus a bunch of water colurs by a local artist becuase, well, I liked them .
A couple of pieces of furniture and pottery that fall into the category of artwork and I keep my eyes open for others.
But it has got to touch me deep down if you know what I mean.
All of the "art" in my house was either done by me or some other relitive. I have vaces and pots that I made over the years all over the house, along with fraimed works by my closest friends.
I have a whole big bunch of signed/numbered (low release amounts) photographs and prints. In the originals category, i've got a number of oils, two good watercolors, a colored pencil drawing, a couple pen and ink renditions, and some interesting art glass. I've got a pretty good collection of pretty good fossils, including a few very rare specimens in very good condition. I've got some handmade paper art, too, framed in shadowboxlike frames. Additionally, i have a two good scupltures, both in stone, both tabletop size.
I love art.
I'm totally incapable of doing any myself.
Perhaps part of why i buy it with such fevor is that it represents an avenue of self-expression which is, for all intents and purposes, closed to me.
I'll be glad when i buy a house (soon soon soon) and can get it all out of its boxes and crates. I miss it around me.
