Self defense, not hunting.
I carry a folder for that, I favor Tanto style blades, they're more likely to pierce a dogs skull, I started back when everybody had those inbred Rottweilers.

People often use guns, and presumably already have the drop on you - so short of packing yourself, I don't worry much about them, just don't carry all your cash in one spot. I do keep one in the truck when I travel, but the best defense against a carjacking is your accelerator pedal - in that situation, even causing a major traffic accident will at least attract attention. If you're a woman, you might as well assume they're going to kill you anyway, so you got nothing to lose.

The cane is less conspicuous, I was looking at a sword cane the other day, but it had some manufacturing flaws I didn't like.

A cane is considered a deadly weapon in Korea, and has to be registered like a firearm.

If you can point you can pretty much learn to shoot and I'm assuming I'd have a lot of TIME on my hands. Obfuscation aside, this is what one of the best marksmen I know told me in all candor. There's no great mystery. You point and shoot, do it a million times over, and eventually you can hit a squirrel or bunny or something.

Now making your food not kill you IS hard. Field dressing bambi is harder than shooting him, by far. I think shooting food is a huge "and then what?"

Not to mention making it taste not like crap, which I am good at.
My stepfather was an avid shooter and hunter - we measured ammo not in boxes but in Three pound coffee cans.

Use a pair of snap swivel dog clips, one on each handle. When not clipped together, they are just two sticks in your back pocket. Snapped together they are nunchakus. One is legal, one is not. Just make sure they are unclipped when the cops show up.

I have heard of guys doing what you suggest. (I have NEVER done anything like that myself, heavens to Betsy no!) However, the scumbags don't buy it, they claim that, since the two items could be joined, that it's still a nunchaku. Now, some really evil dudes have been known to join two chain joined nunchakus with a disposable link that they throw far away before the scumbags arrive. (I have NEVER done anything like that myself, goodness gracious no! Trust me.)

Interesting if true. However, that means that a lot of elderly and/or disabled people are using a deadly weapon, day by day. Also, when I twisted my knee, I would have had to obtain a deadly weapon permit when my only aim was to decrease the pain from my injured knee.

Probably a sword cane is considered a deadly weapon. However, the scumbags must prove that the possessor knew that there was a sword hidden inside the innocent appearing cane.

JMHO.

The crookneck cane is one of the first martial arts weapons I learned in Korea and yes, it is considered a deadly weapon.

I have a cane with caps on both ends. Slip the caps off and it become a set of triple sticks. :D Surprise, surprise.

So be it. However, if the crookneck cane is a deadly weapon, simply substitute a knobkerrie or a shillelagh.
