I made a longbow in boy scouts and arrows too. Mine was good enough to hit the target at 100 yards, not bulls-eyes but I hit the target.
Now a compound bow would be difficult without carbon fiber.
So what's the point? Besides these handweapons (and more); I have some proficiency in pointing, aiming and firing really badass ordinance.....doesn't that count too?
How's about a body count from those present......I have sixteen confirmed.....forty or so unconfirmed.......
Live or die.
Hokay.
Make certain you take a can opener.
So, where does weapons come into the equation? As hunting tools or as fighting tools, Mad Max style?I was just wondering if it came down to live or die who would be ready, who would be the survivors, who would be able to defend themselves. Say if there was a collapse of the government, a natural disaster of biblical proportions, etc.
I know I'm ready. And no I'm not a survivalist nut job, but as the boy scout motto goes "Be Prepared", I am.

If it's the former, I can live just fine off mother nature without hunting large mammals. I can fish, make a rabbit and poultry trap and know what roots, shrooms and berries that are edible. (In spite of knowing the theory, and having practiced, I still suck at making a fire though, so I hope I have an able boyscout with me. Or a zippo.)
If it's the latter, fuck it. I'd survive better by making friends and staying out of trouble.
You need to get over your fear of aardvarks.I'm talking about that and the most dangerous animal in the world. It's sneaky, it can be silent(when it needs too) and it is deadly. It will also kill you without hesitation if you have something it wants or needs.![]()

The nunchaku would make an excellent street defense weapon, but it's illegal in almost all jurisdictions.
What's that with?; an MR3A, 308, boattail bullet, moly coated? 600 yards ok, too many variable at 1000 yardsI'm waiting for R. Richard to weigh in.
I've shot a small short-barreled gun at a target 30-50 feet away-harder than it looks.
I'm not bad with a rifle from 1000 yards and I can mothertrucking carve a turkey!

Assuming this is a survivalist theme, can you grow your own food? Can you Can? Preserve meat?
It would get ugly if everybody was just raiding each other, in the event of say, an agricultural disaster - it also presumes there would be something to raid.
That's fascinating Ogg, longbows are cool, and a razor point will penetrate Kevlar whereas a bullet won't.
I'm kind of partial to the Mongol short bow though, but it has such a wicked pull that you have to draw it with your thumb.
I voted, but you needed an option for none of the above.
I'm fairly proficient with chuks, but I prefer the bo staff.

It is not necessarily a survivalist theme...but being able to grow your own food and can and preserve it is not necessarily just a survival skill. My wife grew up in Kentucky, everyone in her family knows how to grow and can. Preserving game meat is also a skill that is good to have and is passed down in the family.
Those are the easy skills. The hard one for most people would be pulling the trigger that sends the bullet down range to kill the game/food. The second hardest is dressing the just killed food.
If you can point you can pretty much learn to shoot and I'm assuming I'd have a lot of TIME on my hands. Obfuscation aside, this is what one of the best marksmen I know told me in all candor. There's no great mystery. You point and shoot, do it a million times over, and eventually you can hit a squirrel or bunny or something.
Now making your food not kill you IS hard. Field dressing bambi is harder than shooting him, by far. I think shooting food is a huge "and then what?"
Not to mention making it taste not like crap, which I am good at.
Yes, the staff is an excellent weapon. However, the nuchaku is easier to carry or conceal. The staff is legal and the nunchaku not.
