Do you have a Muse?

Myself, I don't think of the source of my creativity as a muse, either the classical Greek demigoddesses or a inspirational human. I consider it more like the output of an industrial shredder, chewing up and scrambling random bits of other creations, usually just outputting a mess, but occasionally all the monkeys get working in the right rhythm and we get the start of Queen's "We Will Rock You"

The only way I've found to slow down the output of ideas is to starve the input - but where's the fun of that? Meditation is for insects, to mangle some Heinlein protagonist quotes.

So as I find ideas new to myself eventually make it into my works, albeit in mangled form.

I'm my own muse as I write myself into my stories. Some of my stories are semi fictional where I overblown an incident of mine. I tried to write 2 series as third person and I'm finding it tough to write as I feel disconnected from the characters.

However,I'm the Muse of Russ;) who goes by rustyoznail and he liked my characters in my landlord series that he developed a story where the main character (me) travels to Australia and meets a local Aussie white boy named Russ.

He is yet to complete it but I'm helping him in fleshing out the difference between the Indian and Aussie culture.

You might see them soon for the summer story contest.

Geez, no pressure. :D:D:D

I did have one for a while but she left about a week and a half ago for parts unknown. I'm waiting for her return or for another to come take her place. :(:eek:

Why settle for one?

I’ve had several women who have served as inspiration for my stories.

I have been writing erotic fiction for many years. Principally Extreme BDSM. I have not published in Literotica yet but 2 pending stories. One is actually in the Fan Celebrity category (still BDSM) but there was this one Celebrity who after writing the story became something of a real Muse for me. Meaning the majority of my writing either has her as a central character or she is the inspiration for other stories.

The question is do any of you other authors have a Muse, and if so whom and what does it translate into the stories you write?

Brutal One

I often "cast" characters, picturing particular actors/actresses in the parts. Most significantly, I modeled Mary in my Mary and Alvin series after Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She is my favorite actress, and I have actually had a very brief bit of correspondence with her.

Just for fun, I occasionally work references from her work into the stories. For example, viewers of the Fargo TV series may recall a scene in which MEW's character kills someone by dropping an air conditioner on his head.

In Chapter Four of my series, Alvin is installing an air conditioner in Mary's apartment and they have this exchange:

"We need tools? I thought it just sat in the window."

"Well, if you plan on dropping it on somebody's head, that will do. But it's meant to have a bracket."

Yeah I have a muse. Once I even had a dream about him and he kept saying schrijvers schrijven...so I tried to do that...and I couldn't.

I have a Muse and she is the inspiration for my writing. I have a character based on her and some of my writing is loosely based on our personal relationship.

Oddly around the time of joining here I picked up and started rewatching Californication. Ducovny’s Hanks is a writer with writers block. That series though has a lot of cool ideas worthy of writing

This quote from the novel "The Long Way Home" by Louise Penny sums it up for me:
"I believe in inspiration, and I believe it's divine. Whether it's God, the angels, a tree, or a muse doesn't seem to matter."
