Solo is nice because you can get through some really shallow areas

Ever try to paddle solo in any direction other than off the wind when the wind's blowing hard?

There's but one way to do it— and that's from the bow! In a crosswind or with the wind f'rrd of the beam, there's no bloody way in hell to keep a course without paddling from the bow. It looks ridiculous, of course, but it's the only way to get home.

You'll get no argument from me on that point. Nevertheless, when the wind's blowin' hard, depending on the wind direction— the bow may be the only place from which a solo paddler can control the canoe.

Believe me, I've figured this out the hard way.

This is true..

I had to move to the bow a couple times when I ran aground on some underwater reed clumps and scoot the canoe forward.

Although it looks nice outside (and it was) the water was about 40°F.....definitely not a tubing river.....(note that the paddler is prolly sweating in that drysuit)

Some people just can't wait for the water to warm up.

On that particular river, when the air warms up, the glacier melts and more ice water flows. In summer, the water temperature actually goes DOWN with an increase in air temperature.
