Marquis, I think it's been said very well by others before me, so I'll just add my vote of support. I think you should stay as mod.

Boy this thread must be feeling pretty good to you about now huh?

*smiles*

I'm glad to see it and I agree btw, I've never had a problem with you being a Mod, far from it. Nor from you posting as you see fit.

Marquis I like the way you deal with the board , you are doing a good work so I think you should continue it . :) :rose:

Have to admit I am curious about the five people who think you should not be a mod.

I wonder what their reasons for this are.

The silent minority.

I hate it when people don't speak up with their negative views, I always wonder why they choose to hide in a poll.

A mod is not a personality contest, its about doing the right thing when its needed.

I assume the majority of what you do is, like, delete SPAM?

Not to dis you in any way if it's far more complex, obviously it is, for people to bitch but maybe not.

I vote it's a message board, get a grip, and you are doing fine as far as I can tell.

To tell you the truth, I've never figured out why a "Free Speech" board needs moderators at all, but for as long as I can remember this forum has been moderated. *shrugs*

This is pretty nice software and the thread tools are easy to use. They probably do more than delete spam, but it's still most likely administrative stuff, rather than actual moderating. Threads get moved, split [maybe], merged, etc. Like Netzack, I don't mean to marginalize the position, just clarify it. I'm sure they also have to respond to any PM's they get, and maybe pass a few on to Laurel.

Since my enjoyment of the forum has never been a problem, I can assume that the mods are doing their jobs. So, in this regard I have no complaints at all.

However I also don't view the position as one of power or prestige, it's a thankless job for the most part, and mostly boring as hell. I appreciate the mods doing their job in a way that never intrudes on my enjoyment of the site, but beyond that the whole moderator thing is kind of a "Meh" to me.

Well it should be no mystery how I voted in this little tantrum of a thread.

I wouldn't trust that child Marquis with a pet rock let alone an entire forum to look after. I shudder to think the mistreatment any young ladies submitting to him must be subject to.

For my brethren who have made the right choice in this forum, I understand why you wouldn't want to put yourselves out against this boorish mob, but please feel free to pm me personally and we shall plot the young master's demise.

Well, I haven't even read the other thread, on which the hoopla apparently occurred, but I have no bitch with Marquis, or Cat for that matter.

Being a Mod is a thankless job, and frankly, anybody who steps up to the plate on that one has my respect. I wouldn't want it. Keep up the good work, Marquis--I think I've made my feelings about you clear in public, and private communications.

in reference to what alice said....

Yesterday, on a different thread, comments were made explicitly blaming Marquis for the absence of one former member, and implicitly blaming him for a "mass exodus" from this Board.

In addition, specific criticism of Marquis' performance in his role as moderator role was posted by someone who subsequently refused to back up her accusations.

Well unless it was AA that Marquis booted, I can't say I'm missing anyone who's been removed, nor have I missed anyone from the "mass exodus". *waves to the departed* Toodles!

Frankly, as the owner of two e-mail lists and a moderator on two others (and on those I might as well be the owner for the all the input the owner gives) I can say with a great deal of confidence that being a moderator is an often thankless, frequently aggrevating, always guaranteed to piss someone off job. Statistically speaking, about 10% of the people will support you regardless of what you do. 10% will always bitch, complain and holler "Off with his/her head!" The other 80% pretty much don't give a rat's rear end unless you do something for (or TO) them directly.

Welcome to the real world, where standing up above the crowd means you are going to get hammered. Your choice as the nail is to be stubborn and continue to stand up.... or slip back into the mass of mediocrity to be left alone...

In otherwords, MY vote, Marquis, is that you continue to march!

No

That's my answer. I have my reasons, but I don't care to share them.

So...

No.

Pretty sure that my 25 or so posts arent going to matter in the grand scheme of important people voting, but I have been here awhile. I just dont talk much.

Marquis-You piss me off.

How ever, I LOVE that in a man. If you have pissed me off, you have made me think. I think you do a good job as moderator, and I dont have any issues with the way you do your job.

Keep it up.

D

**edit** 40. Fine. 25, 40, whatever. You still do fine.

I say that anyone who voted no should either pm Sir Quam or give us their reasons, lol.
After having read the thread that prompted this, i would just like to add that the reason others were "passed over" make perfect sense to me.
The reaction to your question should make it clear, Marquis.
We don't want you to go.

Just a question: at what point does one stop being one of the younguns and start being one of the older ones? I've always wondered. Any opinions? but I don't want to hijack. Hmm. Maybe people could answer in their posts? I'd make a poll but I'm lazy. And tired.

Good question, Brioche. :) The last forum I spent a great deal of time on, I managed to become one of the Old Ones without realising it; it was kind of weird, really.

I don't know the other thread that is being refered to, and frankly I don't really care to. I don't know who said bad things about Marquis and I don't care to. I have been a regular on this board since last May, and he has never made me feel anything but welcome and comfortable here. I think he does a great job as mod and would not want that to change.

I don't know how an asshole like him got to be mod in the first place.

Well, it's already been said, but I'll repeat it, since you seem to be a bit slow on the uptake.

Bein' a mod isn't a popularity contest. It doesn't matter if you -like- the mod, or think he's the biggest dick you've ever met. What matters is how well he does his -job-.

If you've not got anything to say about the job itself, then you've really got nothing useful to contribute, do you?

I already have.

Assholes should not be in charge of anything. They don't like anyone, and no one likes them, so it is very difficult to get any kind of objective or reasonable decision on anything.

As far as popularity contests though, I think it's a little important for anyone that has any official power to at least be not very disliked. But I wasn't talking about whether or not he kicks puppies or stiff-arms old ladies. I'm talking about the way he is on the boards.

So anyway, yeah I already was talking about how he does the job, and he's only mediocre at it anyway.

Most people just don't have the time or inclination to be an exceptional mod or admin. I on the other hand would totally kick ass at it, because I have no life.

And don't ever insult my intelligence again.

*hands you a mirror*

I agree assholes shouldn't be in charge of anything. Did someone put you in charge of anything? Cause I'd totally write a letter and let them know how wrong that was, just to help out, you understand.

Frankly, until I see some semblance of decency out of you, I'll insult whatever the hell I damned well feel like. You can either deal with it yourself, ignore me, or... oh hey! Call a mod.

Ooooh, too bad you don't like the one we have here. Sucks to be you.

So someone asks for opinions, I give mine, you don't like it, then you insult me but give no specific argument against my points, and then I have no decency?

Riiight...

Heh. You're cute.

See, one can make an opinion about someone else based off more than just one thread. My opinion of you? Based off more than just this thread -- although it doesn't really take more than that to form a pretty solid one.

Nobody asked for an opinion of the mod, himself. The opinion was about whether or not he was doing a good job. There -is- a difference. You may have the biggest asshole of a boss in the world, but if he's good at his job, then he's good at his job.

My specific argument, therefore, is that -your- comments had no bearing on the actual topic in question. Is that -really- so difficult to figure out? Or did you just need someone to spell it for you?

And I fail to see why you're so jumpy over being insulted, when you have no problem insulting others to your hearts content. Seems to me you'd be used to it by now, or does nobody else ever bother to respond to you?

That said, have a good night. While amusing, as Vixandra said, this thread isn't -quite- important enough to pass up sleep for.
