with their yippee hey yaws and their self imposed reputation for straight talking and honesty.

Not to mention their peculiar fascination with livestock, barbecues, oil and 'a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do' attitude.

Nahhhh... give me any American as long he's not from Texas...

Bring your ass to these parts and we'll have you walkin' bow legged in a jiffy. I'm a native, proof there are more than one type of texan that can be easily hated.

my lame two cents

East Texas is sorta indistinguishable from Louisiana, and West Texas is a lot like New Mexico. The people drive like Californians - in other words, like total asshole morons. Other than that, they seem cool enough.

Hey - is Texas the Southwest, the South, or is it its own thing?

Not the immediate resistance you expected I bet. Thing is we grow up knowing everyone hates us, perversely-we take pride in it. However, I am pissed that GWB hijacked Austin and forever ruined its rep. Think Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Reverend Horton Heat not little GEORGIE!!

WTF is your problem with Texans? Did you watch too many "Dallas" episodes? I have no fascination with livestock, but I do love BBQ. In almost 30 years I have yet to ever, ever hear someone say "yippie hey yaw." Get a grip.

And Laurel, you are right, the traffic sucks here and people drive like morons. And we are in "the south."

I HOPE this is also one of your bad jokes PPman,

Going yippee yaw yay...I HAVE NEVER seen or heard...methinks you have seen too many cowboy movies or Dallas episodes

And there is nothing bad about people that make their living on a farm or ranch,My father grew up doing that in Stevenville, the family farm did cattle, peanuts, and cotton.

Nothing wrong with the oil buisness either except its not as big as it used to be,all the imported oil.

I worked for one of the oil companies for a time as a geologist.

And Bar B Que?..Its some VERY GOOOOOD FOOD,I have been in England...and frankly English food is extremley bland, but you didn't hear me have a fit about it.

Past that.....Texas has a rich history,It's a nice state to live in,and to me it's home.

The rest is pure BS....chill on the cowboy movies

Texas is the only place I have ever been where I was damn near eaten my two coyotes and biten by a rattlesnake on the same piss break. You take one step behind the building and you enter a whole new fucking world.

And you've met how many Texans in real life ?

It's not THAT yell....

It's, "Yippeekaiyay Motherfucker!" (From Bruce Willis in "Die Hard")
The Republic of Texas produces the most colorful types of people, and the tastiest females! My ex is from El Paso, and man-o-man, she rode me like a Montana cattle drive! Texas also gives us our most colorful folklore (Pecos Bill etc..), and our national pride, the Alamo. I've honestly liked every person I've met from Texas, and can't think of a bad thing to say about them. I guess everybody has their turf pride, you know..like "Liverpool aint shit" type of talk.
Or is it a deeper loathing for one family that lives there....hmmm? :D

For the most part I regard Texans as yorkshiremen with bigger hats.......IE:- blunt talking and self assured, on the whole not the worst personality traits to have.

sure, there are a few, there are always a few, everywhere of everything, that i like.

i like molly ivans; she's a columnist/satirist, the first person (i think) to refer to the 43 as "shrub" (i.e., little bush).

there are some people here that live in texas (i'm not sure if that's where they are "from" because people move around a lot in the states--i live in kentucky but i will never be a kentuckian) who i like and admire immensely--won't name names of course.

most of texas is "the south" but the west is realy "the west," thinking el paso now, the only place i've ever spent any time in.

i had tex mex food last night yee-ha :)

was very nice even had one shot of tequila from a sexy waitress that had glass'es on a gun belt :p

there's good and bad people from everywhere. If you reach adulthood without having learned that lesson, guess what - you haven't actually reached adulthood!

Texas is a state of mind. If you have ever had the exprience I believe that you would find the people are genually good hearted and friendly. From the tall piney wood forest to the desert sands, it is one cultural diversity that one would find hard not to like!

"The people drive like Californians - in other words, like total asshole morons. Other than that, they seem cool enough. "

I was idly reading this when Laurel!!!!! said, said, said..... (sobbing, et, tu, brute)

<----a sensible driving Californian (L O L)

Texas is fine - with the exception of the one product that is currently taking a MONTH's vacation in Crawford "by god" Texas....but that is another story.

Anyhow, the USA is rich, diverse, complex, full of problems, and I love it dearly.

By the way p_p_man, some of my dearest friends are in the UK.

I've gota couple friends from Texas who've been there for me when I needed it. Personally, I don't care where someone is from. A friend is a friend. Geography has nothing to do with it.

Why everyone knows everything is bigger and better...

...way down there in South Kansas!

What she said (and don't flip anyone off in Houston traffic - 50/50 they're packing).

But, thankfully, Austin is its own world.
