This site seems to think we understand what it's saying about this problem. It offers no particulars about what will happen or who is likely to have it or why. Can you or someone else simplify? What does this do? What kind of software is likely to be infected? (Window? Mac OS?) How is it gotten? How can it be fixed?

I ask because the sites this one sent me to said: "you seem to be okay, but you might still be infected if...." Very confusing. Straight up, what is the deal and who is likely to have it? Why would a site that is supposed to check if you have it say that one is okay--but still might have it?

I'm not going to worry. My firewall and anti-virus should keep me safe. ;)

3113 - are you talking about this? "Please note, however, that if your ISP is redirecting DNS traffic for its customers you would have reached this site even though you are infected."

It may be that they are just giving caution given particulars.

Windows is probably more vulnerable, but Macs can get it too. Not sure what sites get it into one's computer, but if you look at porn or open some emails...probably a number of other vulnerable ways to get it...

"This" is from a couple of sites:

"The DNS Changer virus is a computer virus designed to change the Domain Name System (DNS) server address of your computer. This is done so that a remote hacker can redirect your web browser to malicious websites designed to procure your financial information. In addition, the DNS Changer virus may slow your computer, add icons to your desktop, decrease your available memory and flood your computer with unsolicited pop-up advertisements."

The FBI have arrested the hackers and

"Monday is the day that the FBI pulls the plug on the Domain Name System (DNS) servers that have been kept running as a safety net for people who were infected by the malware, and as a result were being directed to bogus DNS servers."

If you are infected and get redirected to one of the bogus DNS servers you will not be able to get on the internet when the FBI turns them off tomorrow. If that happens you'll have to call your ISP and have them walk you through steps to get back on.

Click on the link and click on the Test button. Scroll down and click on one of the links in the blue/white field to test. Green for okay, red for infected.

If infected go back and click on the fix button and download some of the free software to scan and delete the virus.

Here is the FBIs info on it: http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/november/malware_110911

I understand that all infected computers will automatically default to the Loving Wives stories at LIT.

Yes, that confused me.

Did so, and got green--but also got that "you would have reached this site even though your are infected" warning, which seemed to make the green "moot."

I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow, but as this is the only porn site I visit regularly, I think I might be okay. Glad they caught these guys.

The green means you're fine. You may want to do the check again an hour before midnight, or whenever you shut down for the day.

That last bit of technobabble is telling you that even an infected computer would have made it to their virus check site (but not to the "You're Green" page of their website). They hope to entice folks who have verified their computer's clean bill of health to go tell their friends to get checked out too, and not to give up on going to the website out of fear that, once infected, they'd never be able to get there because the virus would redirect them somewhere else.
