The year is 2110 and earth is on the brink of a new technology era far greater then any before. Technology hasn’t increased that much in the past hundred years except for the banning of internal combustion engines. Cars, airplanes, and even space shuttles have been replaced by ion drive engines capable of 10 times the speed of rockets. Roads are non-existent and only floating buoys mark highways and streets in the sky. Weapons have advanced a bit but nothing too serious the same could be said for armor but new technology is on the rise.
This new technology threatens to change space travel as earth knows it. Already capable of traveling to the edge of the solar system new warp drive technology promises to send humans to the farthest reaches of space. Potentially unlocking the universe scientists from all around the world have gathered to make this dream possible.
That is where you guys come in. These elite groups of scientists have gathered together a group to pilot this new era of space technology. The group comes from all over the planet and your mission is to discover life on other planets. The mission leaves in one week say your good byes and return in a week…..these are your last days on earth.

The story so far....

The sun rises over the mountain tops spreading a thin sheet of morning light over the lush forest below. Only a few signs of activity litter the area as the world awakens into this new summer day. The faint call of wildlife drifts through the air as a distant volcano rumbles its vast belly of molten rock. A flock of birds drift across the sky calling to each other as several large booms followed by a sustained whoosh ripples from the nearby tree line. Several hundred more birds rush to join the flying flocks all at once, a flurry of calls and chirps rip through the air as other creatures scramble away from the furious noise.

Meanwhile in another part of the world a telephone rings franticly at the house of one General Kosiff, a Russian born immigrant now highly ranked in the US army. Scrambling for the phone he knocks it to the floor abruptly ending the annoying ringing. Picking it up his voice cracks as the last bit of sleep flees from his body. “Kosiff. Who’s this?” A ruff voice answers a moment later. “Its Coslow….The phoenix is awake.” A long pause follows as Kosiff nearly drops the phone. “Alert the others….we have many things to do. I shall be in shortly.” Kosiff hangs up the phone with no response and glances at the clock. “Four in the morning….why four in the morning.”

2 weeks later….

The time has come for a new era of technology far greater then that ever mastered by man. Several of the world powers of Earth have come together in secret developing plans for this new dawn of space travel. Together they have created a warp drive capable of traveling light years in mere moments. The limitless universe is no longer limitless and you have been chosen to dive deep into its unknown depths.

A new organization has been formed to deal solely with this new technology and the knowledge it gathers. They have assembled a top notch team of 6 specialized men and women to pilot this new craft into the black abyss. No longer will the constraints of human ageing get in the way of mankind and its ever grasping hand of knowledge.

The dark clouds part as the convoy of military trucks speed down the lone interstate. The rumble of the loose metallic equipment fills the dusty sky as the few grazing steer chew their cud. They barely look up from their dewy meal as the convoy continues onward. Their destination is unknown even to them, their only means of communication a lone long range radio. Every few miles now a distant crackle of radio feedback ripples across the radios airways.

All at once the radio comes to life with several conversations at once. One in particular is quite loud and seems to be directed at the approaching convoy. “Calling approaching Condor, Repeat calling approaching Condor.” The soldier hearing the call sign smiles with relief before answering the call. “Condor is safe and awaiting Nestling.” Several of the other conversations on the line go silent as the first voice replies. “Condor, Nestling will be at the Nest Site awaiting your arrival.” The radio goes completely dead and the soldier holding it shakes his head. He checks the map before banging the dashboard in front of him. “That’s another 200 clicks…god damn it.”

Meanwhile….
At the homes of eight not so random people, a sharp series of rings breaks the silence. The source, a phone call from one of many government men who could literally make anything happen. All the calls are the same short, brief, and not too much detail. One of these phone calls is as follows. “Hello??” At first no one answers. ”Tomorrow your life will change. You have been chosen for a mission. A mission into space, weather or not you choose to come is not up to you. You have been chosen for your ability in your field.” Another brief pause “Tomorrow someone will come to get you, I would advise you not to resist.” Before anything can be said the line goes dead and the call is over.

"K'Plah! Governemnt Spook interupted my game of WoH for that? Resistance may be futile, but I know one thing... I am not a number, I am a free man! Heh... Heheh. Heheh-hahahah!" Virgil said, breaking into laughter over his overwrought dramatisizm.

After another hour, playing with the code in WoH Virgil slumped back in his computer chair. "Huh... Space... The final frontier... Cool!" He got up and packed up a number of his most prized programs, along with a sparce ammount of cloths, a stick of deoderant and a travel size bottle of mouth wash. "There, all ready!" He proclaimed then glanced over to the cot that served as his bed. He was asleep before his head hit the pillow, wonderous dreams of spectactular space battles, and gorgeous green skinned woman filled his head.

Sam

Sam was splayed across his bed, still dressed in his clothes. He had obviously managed to kick off his boots before falling onto his mattress, and luckily the bottle of Jack Daniels that had fallen onto the carpet was mostly empty, leaving only a small puddle that his socks would inevitably find as he got out of bed the next morning.

He both blessed and cursed her for leaving the booze, it was one of the only things she hadn't taken with her. Too many days and nights flying cargo from one end of the country to the other had finally ended the best relationship he had had in a long time. It didn't matter that he was one of the best at what he did, that he was respected and hand picked for all the critical deliveries. He was only someone important when he was on his way somewhere. Whenever he got home he always felt like nobody again. That was one of the reasons he never stayed very long, and that was why she left him.

He didn't register the ringing of the phone, instead figuring it was just the ringing in his head getting louder and more annoying. The answering machine picked up and the voice on the other end managed to cut through the fog of his drunken stupor, lodging itself in his subconscious and rousing him enough to know that something was going on, something important. He reached over the end of the bed, fumbling at the nightstand until the drawer opened. Out of the drawer came a bottle, out of the bottle came some pills, and out of his haze came Sam Collins. He relied on the pills from time to time to keep him awake and focused through a long night of flying. And now was not the time for sleep - he didn't know what to expect tomorrow, but he wanted to be ready.

Hank Tomax AKA: Ox

Loud shouts ring out across an open hanger bay in the middle of a massive airfield. A flurry of activity surrounds a giant orbital shuttle parked squarly in its collasal enclosure. The hanger, located in a community of ex-airforce maintenace personal, is routinely choosen as a place for the military to revamp their shuttles.

The current project an ageing oribtal shuttle is nearly finished, its designers had been sure to design in duriblity. The head of the project Hank Tomax stands on a hoverwalk overlooking the giant shuttle. He nods in approval before lowering himself to the ground and shouting to one of the workers.

"You there, I want a report on that tail section it looks like a few panels are misaligned, and the armor plateing on the entry dome looks chipped. I want it stripped and replaced, we need this thing done by tommrow or its your ass."

Hank storms off to his office and slams the door, rattleing the panes of glass in their frames. Sitting himself at his desk he slouches forward his head in his hands. The call last night had upturned his world. He had been doing good, makeing a life for himself. His recent promotion to project head not only boosted his reputation in the industry but his wealth as well. Haveing spent the last 15 years working on all types of spacecraft his company had finally felt he deserved his big break....then this.

DM Post

The nights of all three people are quite uneventfull. They continue about their normal tasks and awaken in the morning to sharp knocks at their doors. On the other side of each door a man dressed in a sharp black suit stands. He gestures towards a SUV where other men similiar dressed wait. At any sign of trouble they look quite capable of being their in a flash. The men say nothing as you enter the vehicle and head off. The various vehicles are all meeting at the same place, a vacant military base in the middle of the hot Nevada desert...

Sitting quietly in the back of the SUV, Virgil looks at the mens expressionless faces through the rear view mirror. He smirked as he began to hum the theme to the X-files, stopping abruptly as he thought of something. "Hey, seeing as Im on my way to outerspace, and most likely never comming back, do you guys think you could tell me if Area Fifty-One is real? I always wanted to know..."

Hank Tomax AKA: Ox

Hank had slept at his desk and awaken to the men in suits at his office door. How they knew he dident end up home spins his head with thoughts. He quietly goes with them, seeing no point of trying to resist the goverment....if thats who they are. The two men lead him to a dark black SUV where yet another suit waits for Hank. He gets into the SUV without a word and breaths deeply.

"Here we go..."

The car ride is quite silent and lasts for hours as endless amounts of never ending secenery passes them by. Hank drifts off after a few hours the motion of the SUV and the dry heat knocking him out. When he awakens its several hours later and the sun is starting to set. Nothing but sand lines both sides of the car but in the distance a dull glow of artifical light brightens the horizon. One of the men turns to Hank and speaks clearly.

"We are almost to our destination."

Sam

It took far less time time, and far less baggage, for Sam to pack up his life. One large duffel bag was all that was needed to hold the sum of all that was Sam, and still he had room left over. A couple of hours online and he liquidated most of his assets and moved the sum to an account he could access from any ATM. He hit the post office and picked up a couple of parcels he hadn't got around to getting yet. He paid off a couple debts, ignored a dozen more.

As the black SUV pulled up to the sidewalk he was sitting on the steps, waiting. He took a couple more slow drags from his smoke as two suits got out of the vehicle and flanked it, one of them opening the rear door. There they stood, silent sentinels, their hands folded in front of them expectantly. He nonchalantly flicked the last of his cigarette onto the street and stood. "Morning, gents!" he smirked. As he swaggered up to the waiting suits he tossed one of them his duffel bag. The man just stared as the bag went sailing by and landed behind the SUV in the road.

The cocky smile left Sam's face immediately. He humbly went and collected his bag, brushed some of the mud off and climbed into the SUV.

"This is going to be a long trip," he thought.

DM Post

The SUV continues to rumble down the dusty highway for hours and in response to any questons no change is made. The men dont flich or speak and just continue to stare. After many hours of driveing the sun sets and in the distance you see a faint glow.

After a hour or so more the glow turns into a well lit military base. You can see armed soldiers crawling all over the compound and hear helecopters arriveing in the distance. The SUV approaches a thick metal gate and even before it stops the doors begin the open. The thick doors creak open on massive hydraulic cylinders. Once the doors are open far enough the SUV drives in and follows the road to a single building in the middle of the compound. Only about 15000 sq. feet the building isent a massive one but it is large. The SUV rolls to a stop and the driver calmly announces.

"We have arrived."

A door opens in the building and three soldiers approach the vehicle. They open your door and follow you back into the building. The first room you enter is quite empty. A few machine guns lean against the wall but the three soldiers quickly pick them up. They gesture towards a door in the near wall and follow you through it. The door opens into a warehouse they seems to take up the rest of the building. Various mechanical parts lay all around, large parts of ships and various other vehicles. (Roll Knowledge (Tech.) to find out more)

A loud hum fills the air and a bang follows shortly after. A small corner panel of the warehouse seems to rise out of the floor. A cage like device rises up and inside are three people. They step out and approach you and the soldiers...

"You may go..."

He gestures for the soldiers to go as the men behind him are carrying quite enough protection.

"My name is General Kosiff, we have been waiting for you. Some of the others have already arrived. You will meet them later, but for now follow me. We can walk and talk....or shall we say take a ride downward and talk. "

The general heads back to the contraption and steps inside. Only one of the guards join and the other stays behind. He doesent say a word and automatically it starts to go downward.

"So what do you want to know."

"Wow, you guys are really solid, like British Royal Guard solid." Virgil says in awe as they pull into the military base. "If I were you, I would have kicked my ass around the eightieth verse of ninty-nine bottles of beer on the wall! Seriously, I am impressed." He had been singing it in an attempt to get them to tell him if Area Fifty-one really existed, but they somehow withstood the punishment of his vocal stylings.

Stepping out of the SUV, Virg looked around, mentally noting anything of interest to his geeked out eyes.

(Know:Tech Roll/19 [7+12])

"Well golly, General Kosiff, I'd like to know who you are, what you all are up to out here, and obviously, why you picked me for this little mission to the stars."

DM Post~Virgil

Virgil:

"Well golly, General Kosiff, I'd like to know who you are, what you all are up to out here, and obviously, why you picked me for this little mission to the stars."

The general looks at you with a smug look, and grunts.

"I'll answer your questons if you then answer mine. As for who I am I told you I'm General Kosiff, thats all you really need to know. But I am the product of years of battle hardened conditioning. Those that run this whole deal hired me to make sure all personall and infomation will not leave this building without prior notice. As for the other two questons they will be answered quite shortly. Now they told me you were quite the queston asker on the way here. Why do you want to know if Area-5 existed so badly?"

Sam

Sam had dozed off in the SUV and was awoken when his captors (for lack of a better term) told him he had arrived. The military base seemed like organized chaos to Sam. He didn't expect anyone to talk to him or offer him any information, so he instead decided to quietly do what they told him to. He did look around for ships, though, since he was intensely curious as to what he would be piloting (since that was the only reason anyone would be interested in him in the first place). Seeing a few pieces of crafts, he tried to see some identifying marks or anything to hint at what it could be [knowledge(technology) roll 12 + 3 = 15].

As a sharp bang echoes in the room, his attention is abrutly pulled to a commanding figure approaching him.

"My name is General Kosiff, we have been waiting for you. Some of the others have already arrived. You will meet them later, but for now follow me. We can walk and talk....or shall we say take a ride downward and talk. " Sam obediently follows him into some kind of elevator. "So what do you want to know?" he is asked.

Sam's mind draws a blank for a minute. There is so much he could ask, but the only thing that springs to mind is "Well, what exactly am I doing here?"

"So, you're essentially the information police on this little merry-go-round huh? Oh, the whole Area Fifty-0ne thing? Im a big fan of the X-files, thats all, oh, and MiB too, good stuff. At least the earlier seasons and the first movie, the rest was kind of shlocky..." Virg said with a sly smile. "So, I DID get to the boys huh? I thought I was getting a vibe from them, but wasn't sure. Boy, they really are solid. Good for them!"

DM Post~Sam

Sam:

Sam's mind draws a blank for a minute. There is so much he could ask, but the only thing that springs to mind is "Well, what exactly am I doing here?"

The general stares at him for a brief moment before letting the high pitched drone of the lift take over. A second or so later he turns back to Sam...

"Thats all you want to know? If it is, that queston will be answered quite shortly. The only thing I can tell you is what you already know, your heading into space for a mission. I thought for sure you would have been full of questons like the others...I guess not."

Hank Tomax AKA: Ox

Hank steps out of the SUV as they arrive at the building. Quite calmly he lets himself out of the vehicle and heads for the door. He doesent bother waiting for the so called 'men' that had driven him. As the soldiers step out he greets them with a wave and stops short.

"So what are these guys brainwashed or are they fricken robots or something."

He laughs to himself looking back over his shoulder at the suits. All three of the 'men' are slumped forward heads mashed against the dashboard or seat in front of them.

"What the....."

The soldiers rush forward and grab Hank's arms pushing him into the building. The quickly escort him into the warehouse portion where they rush the meeting with the General.

"Sir he saw the shutdown."

The general shakes his head as he tells them to leave and Hank and the other man step onto the lift. The general sighs and turns to Hank with a dumbfounded look.

General:"So you know now..."

"Umm...know what?"

General:"Ahh oh...nevermind. Dont mind me, lack of sleep, I been greeting all of you personaly and its quite tireing."

"So what did happen back there? Was I right? Are they robots??"

Sam

"Thats all you want to know? If it is, that queston will be answered quite shortly. The only thing I can tell you is what you already know, your heading into space for a mission. I thought for sure you would have been full of questons like the others...I guess not."

Sam shrugged his shoulders. "I guess I figure that I'll get some kind of briefing to give me all the basic info, and I get the feeling that anything else I ask you either can't or won't tell me. It's pretty obvious you want me to fly something into space, I'm a transporter so probably some kind of cargo. You're military, so most likely military cargo - maybe weapons, maybe some new technology or something. I'm sure you guys have your own pilots who are adequate for most kind of flying, so either this is something experimental you need an expert for, or it's really risky so you don't want to risk one of your own, or it's gonna take a while and you can't afford to take one of your good pilots out of duty for that length of time."

Sam looked at the general to see what kind of response he was getting.

DM Post~Virgil, Hank & Sam

Virgil:

"Infomation police? I like that...has a nice ring to it. As to getting to my boys...if you hadent noticed they arnt the most normal bunch. How do you think I knew so fast about what happened on the way here. If you think cellphones then good luck trying to get a signal."

Sam:

The General nods along to you and shows his agreement. He shifts his weight before finally answering.

"As I said I truely dont know why your here. I was merely hired to keep you and everyone else in this building, includeing its secrets, safe."

Hank:

General Kosiff looks at Hank with blank eyes and shakes his head.

"I cannot tell you a thing...please, they will tell you everything when we arrive."

All:

The general stops speaking abruptly as the lift comes to a stop. You step out into a brightly lit corridor of stainless steel. Gleaming metal shines all around you as Kosiff leads you away from the lift. You take a couple of turns and finally come to a room wall to wall with computer banks. Several computer nerds run around checking various things. One in particular stops as he notices the General.

"Kosiff!! Its Coslow good buddy. We talked on the phone a few weeks ago? Remember?"

Kosiff looks at the man and seems to match his face with the voice. He balls his fist and thinks better before shakeing his head.

"I have lost alot of sleep because of you. Do you know where danny is? I need to get in touch with him about the space team we have assembled."

"Yeah, I figured you might like that title. Kosiff, is there something about your government spooks you'd like to tell me? You sure seem awfully chatty about them after all... They genetically altered or something? Oh! They're part Alien, arn't they!? Like Starman, the series?! Heh, that was cool, but the movie was better."

Virg shuts up as he stands back to watch the General interact with this Coslow guy, absently giving the other computer nerds respectful nods.

OOC: Does Virg recognize this Coslow's voice as they guy that called him the night before?
