About a quarter of the 4,500 people in the audience got up and left before the performance had finished, Gorgon said....

I've been listening to local talk radio and heard dozens of people calling in to say they were at the concert and that the whole incident is being blown all out of proportion.

The article you cited doesn't mention that the dedication came on her last encore for the night so people "walking out" -- which didn't happen at anything close to the scale reported here -- could have just been people trying to beat the traffic jam in the parking garage or with other reservations they had to be on time for.

If the eyewitness reports I've heard today were anywhere close to accurate, and her comment cited in this article is accurat, there was a LOT more going on between her and the casino than dedicating a song to Micheal Moore.

The above statement by Ms. Ronstadt shows her arrogance and intolerance. All in all she seems like a very unlikeable person, caught up in her own celebrity status.

That would cover quite a percentage of the American population. Unless she's playing at a democrat party rally or something, I think she can bank on that there are at least a handful of republicans in the audience. Poor thing, she really can't enjoy her work.

Now that is funny, but I can't say much. At a friend's wedding recently, my dad and a bunch of his friends' sang and danced the Curley Shuffle. I was the girl hiding under a table.

The point, I believe, goes way beyond whether or not the Casinohas a right to hire and fire. Of course they do and they do so on a regular basis. Performers and artists take that risk all the time. It seems to me, though, that our intolerance has risen to the level of vengeful raction in many cases. Not satisfied with turning off the tv or radio, walkingout of the theater and asking for thier money back, there's an increasing number of people, usually on the right, who seem determined to punish anyone for disagreeing with them.

I rmember back in the 60's and 70's, when John Wayne expressed his conservative views both in and out of his films. I never ceased to admire him or his movies. Disagreeing with me on politics or economics doesn't earn my eternal; emnity. Michael Moor is not a "traitor", simply a man with an opinion, hte kind of man our founding fathers thought so important to protect that they made that protection hte "first" amendment. I guess i have a belief in the "market place of ideas" and just am not compelled to try and shut other people up. They'll either be listened to or they won't.

The actions of the patrons were abhorrent. They're no different than soccer hooligans or Super Bowl partier's who lose control.

I am somewhat amused by the Casino's action. Moral outrage in Sin City? Gambling, prostitution, alchohol sales, nudity, blue comics, and mob connections,by all means. We all know that if the crowd had stood up and applauded, they'd have given her a raise.

Say what you want, I won't riot about it. I won't burn yuor cd's. I kind of like the discourse. I remember how in seperate interviews with Barbara Walters how John Wayne and Jane fonda expressed how much they admired each other despite their disagreements. They relished the interplay. So do I.

Outrage over free speech is unamerican, if anything is. This board could not exist without it.

To be perfectly honest, I have to admit that if I owned the nightclub and my hired entertainer for the evening decided to perform a tribute to John Ashcroft, she'd be history. It's my club, my stage, my microphone and my dime, and a person can only hear "Let the Eagle Fly" so many times before decomposition sets in. I might fire the audience too, for applauding.

This helps explain my absence of accummulated wealth.

Thank you so much for saying what I was thinking about the topic This is definatly the point I was trying to make, not weather or not the casino was right or wrong in it's actions.

Personally I'd have to have to cowtow to the dollar of people who act so shamefully in my establishment. When I worked for fast food, I eventually refused to refer to the customer as 'guest' because, if I had guests in my home who acted like many of them I'd kick them out!!!!

But I do know that there are plenty of people who don't really give a damn how obnoxious you are as long as you keep pouring your money in their coffers. Bully for them. It would make me physically ill.
