Finished watching season 1 of Picard. I'm looking forward to season 2.

Currently watching Discovery. Midway or so through season 2. Very curious.

I've enjoyed both very much and would have a hard time picking one over the other really.

Thoughts?

I dropped Discovery half way through season 2, it just didn't grab me. I liked Picard though.

Discovery

As dark as it can be, the second season was fun with Captain Pike (and he is getting his own series, Hurray!), and the third season is interesting, plus Michelle Yeogh is so deliciously good (and evil).

I didn't like Picard at all, the ending sort of saved it a little bit, but it literally took away any of the hope that was in the original series, Picard is like this doddering old fool, the federation is quite frankly scummy (just a little to much like current politics), and it is just plain bleak, everything in it is just like this giant dystopia. There are some good actors in it, I like the ship's captain, he is a pretty good rogue, but it lacked any kind of star trek touch (even in Discovery, as dark as it was/can be, had some lightness to it, even humor).

If the second season is like that, I'll probably stop watching it. On the other hand I really am waiting for "To boldly go", the series with Pike, Anson Mount was fantastic as Pike.

Finished the third season of Discovery.

I think I'm going to go with Discovery. I think it has more options to build on. Similar to Voyager in the delta quadrant - but in this case 900+ years into the future. I love the cast also. The two gay guys are cute as a button and I think Reno rocks.

I'll be curious to see where they both go.

One typically signals their disinterest by being disinterested. :)

Actually had a chance to binge "Enterprise" recently, and I have to say that it is much better than some of the reviews I had heard.

To each their own I guess.

I couldn't get past that godawful power ballad theme tune.

Captain Picard famously stated that:

The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.

In that spirit, I refuse to watch any Star Trek series that I have to pay a subscription fee for. When Picard and Discovery pop up on commercial television, I will watch them. Until then, I will settle for endless re-watches of TOS, TNG, DS9, and Enterprise.

Where's the fun in that, though?

Don't you want other people to know your tastes are more snobbishly discriminating than theirs? :D

I'm currently nostalgia bingeing TNG for all the eps I might've missed and/or can't remember. Think I'll do Enterprise after that.

There should be a third option for "None of the above".

I'm with you on this. If they didn't have "Star Trek" in their title, they would be just another generic syfy. More plot holes than Swiss cheese, bad acting, everybody's crying half of the time, Egoistical maniac of a character with messiah complex as main hero of the show (looking at you Burnham). They pissed all over existing fanbase... And Captain Picard is my favorite character, that says a lot. ... I better stop while I can.

Both , but Discovery would be the favorite. Honestly without quarantine last year we would have never watched any of the Star Trek shows. It’s been a pleasant surprise, I would credit the ability to binge watch a series to having discovered them in the first place.

The Expanse is very well done as well.

I have not gotten into Discovery yet but as a long time TNG fan and I loved Picard so I am going to vote that way.

How the fuck can anyone take the head of Huddersfield university seriously?

TJ Hooker is the only star trek captain worth his salt, him. the pointy eared fucker, the call centre operative and the jock who does a good impression of being sobber, thrown in a gay chink and a russian.

Sounds like you were watching some crap translation or a continental version.
