Did you watch the video footage they showed of alaska?
You know that footage witht he trees, the beautiful landscape, the beautiful heards of caribou etc?

Did you know that is no where near ANWR where they want to drill?

Did you know it was not ANWR because of their disclosure that it was not, or because you happened to recognise the topography? (or some other reason?)

No. Does it matter?

Yeah, it does to me. At best it would be an example of shoddy journalism. At worst, it would be an intentional effort to deceive the viewers.

I mean, come on. In all the talk there's been, and the reports which have been done on the ANWR, are you telling me that CNN couldn't get hold of a stinking minute of actual footage? I've done some TV work and it aint' hard to get footage of what you need, even if you don't have it yourself. For an outlet the size of CNN, it would be a picnic.

It's either lazy or deceptive.

I saw the footage. Pictures of little rabbits and a few caribou interspersed with pictures of blooming flowers. Real touchy feely stuff:rolleyes: . The land set aside for drilling is around 2000 acres. The entire ANWR reserve is the size of South Carolina. I just cant believe that CNN would try to decieve.:D

I don't disagree with you JazzManJim. That is why I asked the question above. If it was not disclosed, it is deceptive. If it was, then it may not matter if what they shot was represented as Alaska but not ANWR. With disclosure, I am not sure it matters if the land shown was not substantially different than ANWR. Without disclosure it violates journalistic ethics undoubtedly.

I'm waiting for the answer to that one as well. I may end up having to jog over the the "liberal media bias" thread and pummel some folks while yelling "AHA!".

:D

On the journalistic side, though, even if they said that it wasn't the ANWR, it would still be troubling. CNN certainly has the resources to get ANWR footage, and it would be nearly no effort for them. So, not to use it, even if they disclosed it would make it lazy journalism.

The more sinister aspect, if you choose to accept it (and I'm not sure one way or another, even though it's completely plausible) is that they'd use it and believe that even though they said it wasn't ANWR, that there'd be a sizeable number of people who would either not hear that part, or just blip on by it without it sinking in. They'd give more credence to the lovely Bambi-esque fields and such without even caring that it wasn't the ANWR. That'd mean that they were just using people's own laziness to promote some sort of agenda, and that'd really bug me a lot.

I'm not saying the latter is true, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. :(

How then do you know that it isn't?

Was that supposed to be the terrible picture? THere are no trees but it did not look terrible to me?!?!?

As it is a huge area, perhaps there is no single identifying clip that could be used. The oil there still are peanuts

So I'm supposed to feel sorry for the enviroment........

Let's see.....I don't drive a car, hardly ever even ride in one.

I recycle.

I don't litter.

I'm a proud owner of a bicycle.....

I'm sorry. I can't protest a company that gives people jobs.

I knew it wasn't Anwr cause I have a friend from Bible College who came back from a two year missions internship in Alaska. He was all over the place visiting the towns and the villiages and all the other communities and he gave me a video tape of ANWR area and other areas.

Last night they said the video was of ANWR. not a generic view of Alaska

What are the chances of your friend seeing all of ANWR? It's not the fucking Washington Monument. You can't stop and say-hey! That's ANWR, just that one spot.

Ok so two years isn't long enough to see all of alaska and ANWR tell me how long one must be there to see it all please?

When will you tire of tactics to make us all believe you have personal experience?

Your work in NY
Actually coming to Maine to get an ID
Your friend spending 2 years in Alaska.

It's an overused tactic.

Todd -

God forbids lying as well as premarital sex. Just adds to the whole juxtaposition of a staunch Christian who believes in abstinence so strongly gracing a porn board for 2 years. :)

Would you like to check out my expoerience I offered you before to call Harvest Bible Baptist church in Brooklyn New York

Camp Hope in Yonkers New York

Getting Maine ID makes it easier to cross the border, would you like the name of the officer who issued it? I have his card and number somewhere around here.

So, he gave you a video that covered every single piece of the ANWR? Must have been one hell of a movie.

Holy shit, people.

The man has a friend who spent two years there.

He has a video tape of the countryside.

He's not making an unreasonable statement when he says that what he saw on TV doesn't match the evidence that he has.

Cut him some slack. The man didn't murder the staff of NPR or something. :)

I find it hard to believe that his friend has a photographic memory enabling him to take in the wild scenery of an area the size of the state of North Carolina, or whatever it is.

Sounds like the original post doesn't cut the petroleum (jelly)

:D
