Semen is made of mucus, sugar (fructose--the same sugar in fruits) to provide energy for the sperm, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), prostaglandins (regulators), and a coagulating protein that causes the semen to clot in about 5 mintues if ejaculate ends up outside the vagina (scientists don't yet understand the reason for this one, I suspect, however, it could have something to do with a certain blue dress...).

Dont know if it is true or not but i once read that the geletinazation also takes place in the vagina. The process supposedly was to help defend the poor little spermies from being destroyed by the female imune system and increase the chance of sperm survival. I think it also mentioned that it only last about 20 minutes inside so i doubt it really provides that much protection.
