RW may be a bit smarter than the average bear. You see, I like to be able to speak my mind without having my stories tanked. So I post stories under a different handle that I never ever post onto bulletin boards with. Best of both worlds. I realize there are assholes out there, but I like to beat them at their own game. I speak my mind here as I please and am well qualified to do so, with my work on the top lists and little red H's beside them under a different nick. Call me a coward, if you must, but my stories will remain where they are one way or the other and for this I'll smile all the way to the bank.

I never suggested anyone should be happy that there were jerks that fucked with stories or screwed people over on PC. I only meant to say that, "Yes it sucks, and no there's not a damn thing we can do about the trolls." I suppose I've chosen to whine and babble to close friends about my strife as a slammed writer here at times and apparently some folks feel the need to do their whining and babbling in the public sector.

Pick apart my reply as much as you want. I'm prepared to discuss any and every aspect of it with you for as long as you have the energy to go the rounds. But don't expect me to stoop to name calling and other such petty behaviors to get my point across. I'm a writer. I'm good and capable of typing my opinions and backing them with proof, rather than spouting simplistic bullshit and disdain at an unknown fellow author.

You've no reason to apologize to me, mismused. I'm sorry to use your thread to voice my own opinions because it appears as though I don't understand your plight. I do, only all too well. I had a new story that sat at number one on the top list in its category for two days and when the mainstays of that category realized it, my story plummeted past number 50 on the same list in a matter of hours. It's taken two months for that story to climb back up, but is now nicely nestled in what I consider a pretty fair spot.

I don't know many authors that write without placing some small part of themselves in the story, or at the very least have a strong attachment to its success. I'm equally as passionate about my writing, which is why early on, I decided to adopt a writing handle as well as a posting handle. I hadn't been here very long when I came across a thread speaking of this exact problem...low class, low life, low ball voters. Most of the time they were sparked by a comment/conversation gone bad within the forums. It had naught to do with the story.

I only wanted to post and make the point that, in my experience, the more authors/poets make a big deal about being unhappy with certain aspects of Lit, the worse their work seems to suffer. The 'discussion' almost always gets personal and ugly and I can't help but ask myself what the people 'discussing' really think they are going to achieve? Trolls don't give a shit about our personal feelings. Guess I'm just of a different school of thought, though. What goes around, most often comes around. I don't need to be around when it does, I just believe it will and that everything works out in the end.

I also tend to live by the rule that if you can't change something there isn't a helluva lot of point in railing against it. I don't see Laurel up and changing the system or tracking down vicious voters, so I just wonder where all of this venting and ranting is supposed to get the people indulging in it. Maybe it's just a stress reliever and they needed to tell someone. If that's the case, you're all welcome to it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your stories/poems don't suffer for it.

Thank you for your even-handedness with me. Whether I'm right or not, we do get trolled. In fact, some sorry excuse for a human being did so last night. Yeah, like a thief in the night, they/he/she came in and gave me a 1.

I PM'ed Laurel (gulp - something I said I would never do), and haven't heard back from her of any action as yet (I gave her the vote number, and the time frame of the vote). I've got good track of this one.

Let me bring up one point that no one has raised, and honestly, neither have I so far, and that is the actual voter.

We have so few people that vote, and most times even less that comment to us via feedback. If they love a story, aren't they also being cheated? I think they are, and in several ways.

Perhaps the most important way is "Hey, what's the use in voting if five votes of 5 each get negated by a solitary jerk voting a one for whatever sleezy purpose?" Why should we ask them to vote if it's going to be negated by a lying, cowardly sleezeball?

I won't win any contests on Lit -- not enough votes, and wouldn't accept any money anyway -- there's too many people out there that need it much more than I do. Besides, I really don't give a hoot if I don't win. All I wanted to do was see if someone else enjoyed something I wrote. I just happened to hate cowardly crap like they do, and no one told me ahead of time that I had to accept it.

Anyway, I'll see if it means anything to Laurel. I have noticed that every now and then they check for fraudulent votes, but it appears to be an occasional, and very random spot check. Can't blame her for that, and I'm sure she's trying to do her best. It's hard being in business for yourself. I don't think this will harm her business here.

I gotta admit, I do admire you for taking on, what must feel at times, a lone crusade.

Yes, there are people out there who do bomb stories - it happens to me from time to time. In fact, it happens to every author I know. On the whole we just shrug it off and accept that Laurel and Manu do all they can to rectify this and prevent it from happening. I'm not saying this is the right way or wrong way to react, it's just the way most do.

In my experience there are two different "reasons/excuses" these sorry individuals have for doing this. I think it was Og that said it in another thread, but bombing usually starts to happen (when or if it does) on the 11th vote. Some people appear to be very precious about their stories staying at the top of the top lists. If a story comes along that threatens their position, they vote it down. And, it would appear, they get their "mates" to vote it down, too - in extreme circumstances (during competitions, etc).

Yes, this has happened to me, on several ocassions. It is happening to one of my stories on a regular basis. It has a steady score, most of the time, but every few weeks it gets bombed. Then Laurel comes along and does her sweep of rogue votes, and it's rectified again. Then it gets bombed again, and so the cycle goes on.

The other instance where I have known it happen is if there have been some unfortunate words exchanged on the boards. Someone might take a dislike to somebody, because of something they've said, and then attack their stories.

I don't think this kind of bombing ever happened to me, but I can't be certain. However, because of a certain rogue in this thread, I am keeping a close eye on them now. If it does happen, Laurel will be getting a PM from me, as well as certain posts being reported. That isn't a threat, just fact.

You do have a point about the actual voters. The sorry behaviour of bombing could be a reason why many don't bother to vote. However, I don't think it's the main reason. Most readers are just that: surfers who pop to this site to read a story or two, and it doesn't even occur to them to vote.

All I wanted to do was see if someone else enjoyed something I wrote. I just happened to hate cowardly crap like they do, and no one told me ahead of time that I had to accept it.

I think that's the main reason why most of us post stories here. I do love writing and the fact that others seem to enjoy it, too, is a huge buzz. That's why I empathise with you. It is such a shame that there are so many dishonest and unscrupulous people in the world. But, and I have to say this, I have found Literotica to be one of the best run sites. Every attempt does seem to be made to keep everything fair and above board. However, if somebody is determined to find a way to cheat the system, such as the rogue person in this thread, then there is very little Laurel and Manu can do, unless they have absolute proof.

Mismused, I hope you don't think anything I have said is defending the bombers (I prefer that term over "Trolls". The term "Trolls", for most people who frequent the 'net, is reserved for people who directly attack others via a message board or newsgroup, such as has been happening in this thread). This is the definition of a troll: On the Internet, troll is a slang term for a person who posts messages intended to create controversy or provoke an angry response rather than to add content to a discussion. Like those who engage in flaming, Internet trolls sometimes resort to innuendo or misdirection in the pursuit of their objectives.

I feel sorry that this has been happening in your thread.

By all means, honey, carry on your admirable crusade. I'm just concerned for you that, because of the way things have happened, you could end up being alienated by a lot of people. That would be completely unfair on you and I hope it doesn't happen. Just proceed with caution and watch your back.

Regarding RW's first paragraph: My stories began to get lowballed LONG BEFORE I ever started posting on the BB. So I'm not buying the retaliation answer, although that happens too. I started submitting stories in June and the serious lowballing started about the time I received two of those Category Nominees for the month of August. I do believe the Queen Snert has a STRATEGY. Bomb my stories as soon as they are posted. Thus, it's more difficult to get an "H" and that means less people read the story and if it doesn't have an "H" people are less likely to give it a 5. And now with the Public Comments the Queen Snert has added a new twist--a 00 on the thermometer and corresponding comment designed to influence others to vote lower. She does it to others also, of course. The first PC on Thesandman's Earth Day contest story gave him 00 and accused him of plagiarism. So that's the WHAT.

WHY? Why are authors like myself, Thesandman, mismused, Elizabetht, and others targeted? Because we are COMPETITION. The WHY is that someone and all her multiple identities is obsessed with being Queen Shit of Literotica.

Regarding RW's second paragraph: There is no accountability for your actions? Then I guess we need some accountability, don't we?
