Hm.. according to the basic laws of physics (how the hell do I know them?) if you make it longer it has to get thinner assuming it keeps the same density. If it stays the same diameter the density has to get less. Both I think would be undesireable "sideeffects".

But hey TBK, if you end up with 6 foot by 1/16 of an inch you could go fishing without a rod or should I say with your own rod

You're right, that's why it's important to use one of those radiator clips. I guess I missed the part where as you lengthen you may need to retighten the clamp as you will reduce in girth. He didn't ask about gurth though, just length,right? We all know length is more important than girth.
