Dianne Feinstein’s Hospitalization Leaves Senate Democrats Without Outright Majority

JORDAN DIXON-HAMILTON2 Mar 2023

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) announced that she was hospitalized on Thursday and is receiving treatment for shingles, leaving Senate Democrats without an outright majority this week as two other senators are also away from the Capitol.

Feinstein confirmed her hospitalization on Thursday after her spokesperson announced she was leaving D.C. for California to focus on a “health matter.”

“I was diagnosed over the February recess with a case of shingles. I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery. I hope to return to the Senate later this month,” the 89-year-old California senator said.

Democrats are just sick people.

That's what you get from this? Of course it is....
And the implications of what losing the majority might have for the affected period of time. Of course you wouldn't get it.

Weird....that one sentence doesn't mention that and the rest is someone else's opinion.

I get that the veto pen is going to be used for a bit to trash a bunch of performative legislation.

Fortunately the it’s the Senate Majority Leader who tables the issues. 👍

89 and still taking up a seat and sucking up lobbyist money.

Poster child for term limits. A lot of people think there should be term limits, issue is....who votes for it? These clowns going to vote themselves out of what for many are lifetime seats?

On that note, same for Scotus, enough with the lifetime appointments.

Someone is upset that people get to elect their representatives....most of us call that "Democracy".

Yeah, lifetime seats… as long as they are able to get re-elected. ;)

Senate is a six year term. Give them two-that's 12 years
House reps are 2 years, give them six, again 12 years.

Now the argument is, well, if someone is doing a great job why should they step away?

The same reason we have a two term limit on president.

The longer these people-and I say this as a whole, because the only thing bi-partisan in our congress is corruption-stay in the more people get in their pockets, the more money they make, the less they work for voters and the more they work for special interest groups.

There is no reason for people-like our current president-to be able to be in politics for 50+ years.

Scotus should be limited position as well. If you happen to be a democrat look at Ginsburg, wouldn't step down for Obama even though she was 76 to allow him to fill the seat with a younger person, and she dies on the seat letting the Republicans replace her with one of theirs. You won't find a better example.

Many do, and for some of them its mystifying. Look at Maxine Waters district, its a third world hell hole, how long has she been in charge?

The issue begins with the voters who keep-like battered spouses-staying with the same idiots who could not care less if they live or die.

The same reason we have a two term limit on president.
The 22nd was IMHO a dumb move. There is nothing wrong with having a good leader. FDR was a good leader, and Americans thought after he was gone, that it was a bad thing to have a good leader for more than 8 years....makes no sense....

So the US will go ahead and default on its debt? Is there a plan for afterwards?

Did you just make a funny? Usually you’re entirely unintentionally hilarious!

Even at 89 she does more good for this country in one year, than you have in your entire pathetic life. And here you are, gloating over an 89 year old who gets sick. And you have the gall to say "Democrats are sick people?"

Fuck you.

YOU are sick.
You never fail, at every chance you get, to display what a disgusting excuse for human being you really are.

From the political party fueled exclusively by hate.

The same reason we have a two term limit on president.
That reason is nothing but plain old politics. After FDR got elected four times, the Republicans were afraid it might happen again. That is essentially the origin of support for term limits on Congress, too: the Republicans started pushing for it back in the '80s when there were still a lot of old Southern Democrats still in office whose seats were obviously going to flip to the Republicans as soon as they retired, and they wanted to speed up the process. Nothing more than that.

I've had shingles, it sucks. My best wishes to the Congresswoman for a fast recovery.

At which point she should consider remaking her temporary absence from Congress into a permanent retirement.

Good job, Derpy!

Yes, Feinstein should be retiring, and should have done so before this current hospitalization.

I'm rather looking forward to either Adam Schiff or Katie Porter being Kevin McCarthy's U.S. senator.

Why isn't ican'thelpbutlovetrump upset about the crazy amount of fentanyl, meth, and gang deaths in McCarthy's district?
