Yes, it's a winter wonderland out there. Most schools are closed. I can't imagine those that are open having enough teachers or many students.

I tell my former students all the time that I was truly blessed to have such wonderful people in my classes. They made me laugh when I was sad and sometimes, on 9/11, we even cried together. They remember the strangest things. Stuff I'd hope they would have forgotten......like the time I forgot my earrings and put paper clips in my ears. Then a co-worker suggested I connect the two with more paper clips. I walked around most of the day like that.

Some schools are closed, others are open. That will be a real mess if they then close early today. The logistics for the parents then are terrible.

You are giving me such a visual with your paper clips. Thank you.

Early dismissals are the pits. I taught at a 4th tier school for several years. (Meaning we were the last to open at 9 am.) When schools closed early we rarely got out early. Some of the teachers who stayed to supervise actually got out later. The buses had to slow down due to the weather and by the time they got to us it was sometimes 5 pm.

Parents do complain when school districts had the option to close and didn't.

Yes it must be the ultimate "pits." And other parents complain that they did close. It is just nasty all around.

Of course we do know MN is the one really in charge. :)

That's so true and she's making sure we all know that. We could get the lowest temperatures in ten years tonight or tomorrow. I didn't realize it had been that long since our temps fell below zero!

That she is.

OMG! Hope you don't have any water pipes on outside walls of where you live!

It can really be messy when that happens in places that never expected temperatures so low.

We've had lower temperatures and a lot of people do experience flooding do to busted water pipes. Yesterday we had one in a state office building. http://www.kmox.com/Pipe-bursts--floods-Wainwright-building/6053885

Then we also have to worry about frozen power lines snapping. The building I'm in now was without power several days a few years ago when major summer storms caused loss of power. Now we have a generator because the doors operate on electonic keys. At least we'd have power in the public areas and the elevators would run. In our club room there's a fridge and a stove.

Hi I tried to open the link for the story about the busted pipe and I was unable to. I will have to try again.

Yes power lines snapping can be horrific as you found out. Glad to hear you will have some power to handle those needed items. Must have been awful. How did you get in and out during that outage?

I wasn't living here then. A neighbor said they grilled outside and looked out for each other. I imagine those who had friends or relatives left.

Did you know...

... that today is the anniversary of Y2K 7-Digit Date? As part of the Y2K phenomenon, January 10, 2000, was the first date to require a 7-digit date field in computer programs (1/10/2000).

Good morning {{{{{DGO}}}}

I am grinning at your post. As there is some limited 2010 angst happening I got the word from my brother. He is in the automobile computer manufacturing industry.... It will be fine but I got a chuckle hearing that.

New Year's Eve in 1999, I was nursing a bad cold and stayed home. I spent a lot of time in yahoo chat rooms with people from around the world. We were laughing when nothing happened. Actually we were happy that no disaster struck the world.

Good morning {{{{DGO}}} Yes I am sure all of us were very, very happy. Hope it is sunny and warming up for you today.

It's sunny and since I don't have to go out, I won't complain about the cold. Are your venturing out today?

Yes, I will be heading out to do some shopping. The winds have dropped, the sun is shining and I have other plans for Wed and Thur when it will be a bit warmer.

Nice to hear you are able to stay in. :)

It was nice today and a lot of the snow melted. I'm heading out tomorrow.

TGIF {{{{DGO}}}} Hope it is staying nice for you today. It isn't bad where I am but it is cloudy, might get to freezing. Still things are better. Might get to 40 over the weekend here. :nana:

Have a great day.

It's 39 here now! I went out and picked up some meds. It was almost balmy.

TGIF {{{PJ}}} It was just grocery shopping. I stayed within my budget. :)

I had my groceries delivered on Wednesday. So nice to have 'new' food! I think I'm going to put myself on a grocery budget soon. First I need to stock up on the things I use a lot so that I can buy when it's on sale.

Nodding, yes if the sun is out and there is no breeze that is a delightful temperature.

Have a fantastic rest of the day and a marvelous weekend.
