DGO's New Unthread!

Breakfast without sweets (or bread) is not for me.

I was rather out of it yesterday. I was reading posts on Facebook. I noticed that I friend and former co-worker was tagged. In the third post, it was made clear; Stuart had passed away. For some reason I think it was covid.

Stuart was the instrumental music teacher at our middle school as well as being a local musician. It hurt like crazy. When we met, we had been selected to teach at a new magnet school. That made us closer than most staffs. When I learned that he had a $25,000 budget for instruments, I struck up a conversation. I think he had one of the largest budgets in the building. As a Communication Arts teacher, I got $2,000! I know that sounds big and it was, especially since we didn't have to buy an overhead projector and other stuff.

The kids were equally shocked by his death. A few of them shared stories and that made feel better, knowing how important a role he played in their lives.

I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend/coworker. It’s got to be comforting to at least see how those students posted how they remembered him.

One young man said that Stuart changed his life. Stuart was looking for a big 6th grader to learn the sousaphone. This kid was one of the biggest boys in the 6th grade. He played in the band throughout high school! He'd been a troublemaker in elementary school, but not in middle or high school.

Thank you.

Celebrate the day. If your mother is here, give her a hug. If not, say a prayer and thank her for all that she did.:heart::heart:

At the company water cooler, I bragged about my children's world travels: one son was teaching in Bolivia, another was working in southern Italy, and my daughter was completing a year-long research project in India.

One co-worker's quip, however, stopped me short. "What is it about you," he asked, "that makes your kids want to get so far away from you?"

Good morning!

That looks delicious, but I couldn't have it in my fridge. Living alone with no one to help me eat it; well you get the idea.

Believe me, I know. The pandemic had me gain back majority of the weight I lost. Now since I’m tiring of cooking and places are back open and delivering...you can see where I’m going with this. At times, I feel like a fat girl walking.

I had to stop ordering in before the pandemic. The food was too good! I started buying a lot of processed foods. I've been ordering my groceries online sine 1996 and love the convenience. After spending 5 weeks in a rehab center cooking was difficult. Of course the weight skyrocketed. I decided to cut out 1 processed meal a week. That meant cooking, but I only do simple things.

Don't feel bad about gaining weight, a lot of people did! I call them pandemic pounds.
